As the above my dog was attacked. Both were on the lead and he approached our dog. They both had a sniff and the other turned nasty and caused a large cut to the top of our dogs head. There is another small puncture wound. Thankfully not as deep. I managed to pull our dog out of the way and he other owner walked off.
He is currently at the vets with dh. £160.00 before treatment.
I asked for his name and phone number and he was very red and apologised. Anyway the number is not working. I have photos of his car with the reg. Not sure where to go from here.

Report to the police or the local dog warden.

I hope your dog is okay. If both dogs were on lead it's possible that his dog won't be found liable, though. It's very common for two on-lead dogs to react/fight unfortunately.

Hope your dog is ok but I doubt anything would be done ,both dogs on lead ,if questioned he will probably say your dog went for his as well and yours just came off worse . Just avoid him if you see him again . The advantage of reporting it anyway is because he may be a repeat offender and then some action may be taken .

My dog was attacked twice by another dog in the village, racking up about £500 worth of vets bills. I rang the Police who visited the owners and told them to supervise it better. Luckily for me Hmm the little bastard bit me too on the 3rd occasion and it was enough for the CPS to take to court - even though they weren't allowed to say about the 2 previous attacks because they were purely dog on dog. It was given an order to be kept on a lead and muzzled at all times, which the owner doesn't do but I've made sure that every other local dog walker knows about it........

I'd phone the local station for advice on the 101 line; they may have words with owner at least and it's on file if it happens to another owner.

It's a horrid experience, I was left too scared to walk my darling boy alone for months afterwards. Hope your dog is OK Flowers

I was in a very similar situation a few months back with my pup. She was one lead the other dog wasn't and it charged at my pup and bit her stomach. The man apologised and walked away (we knew where he lived) once we were home we checked her over and she had a puncture mark around her stomach. We took her to the vets and it cost 300 for antibiotics, cleaning and second appointment to check her over. We contacted the police and were told a dog on dog attack is apparently not an offence and they would just phone the owner and ask him to muzzle his dog in future and he didnt have to pay the bill if he didnt want. I asked the police for his number and rang them myself and sent them copies of the vets notes and asked if he was willing to help with the fees. Luckily he agreed to half and though we were still out of pocket and a little injured pooch we had to accept it because he didnt legally have to pay. It really angered me but unfortunately there was nothing we could do. I'd still report to the police and see what they say though. Hope your dog is ok.

The police gave you his number??

AS I understand it and unless things have changed unfortunately there is nothing you can do and there is no "crime" committed. Dog on dog attacks even if a dog is killed by another dog have to have negligence proven. Just having a dog off lead is not classed as negligent and unless there is a reported trail of previous attacks nothing will be done. The fact both dogs were on lead does confuse the issue even more.

If there is a trail of previous attacks you can claim through the small claims court. So worth reporting to dog warden in your area and see if it has happened before. A description of the dog and man may be sufficient if the dog has attacked before.

The police contacted him first to explain the damage to my dog and to give him advice on keeping his dog on a lead and muzzle ect and asked permission to pass his number onto us so we can sort something between us such as helping us with fees and things like that as the police couldn't help with anything.
Since then we did find out his dog had attacked previously and growls at any other dogs walking past but we didnt know this at the time.
