And I'm sooooo nervous!
I've never had a dog, think the rest of my family think he will just quietly cuddle them but I know he won't!
I'm worried about everything!
Please reassure me! This has been a decision that its taken years to make, we've met him twice and we all love him to bits.

Not too bad, I slept on the camp bed next to crate and he was knackered so settled to sleep but once he woke for wee #1 couldn't settle so ended up on the bed with me. He did wake me for the toilet, which was great, and went outside each time and settled back to sleep til 7am so pretty acceptable!!

Our puppy is 4 months old and he slept in his crate all night from night 2 and he now sleeps for 12 hours without needing to get up for a wee 😵. Obviously, if he’s crying get up and go to him and take him out but I see people setting alarms for certain times throughout the night and sleeping on the floor and just wonder if they’re making a rod for their own backs.

My best advice is play sleep music quietly and put something that smells of you or even better, his mum and siblings in his crate. I put in a fleecy PJ top that I’d worn on the first night we got him for the second night and that really helped.

My other best advice is unlock the back door, put your shoes on and then let him out of his crate in the morning for the toilet. Our poor puppy’s one and only poo accident in the house occurred because DH let him out on the first morning while I was faffing getting everything ready to let him out.

Tip of the week, make sure you want to really do this. Raising a puppy is quite easy, it is literally a question of finding the time to do so. For novices, I typically recommend a small dog not a big or medium one especially when children are living in the house as well. Buy those puppy wee mats, keep a daily log of times and offer praise to your pup whenever it is done outside too. Or a treat, whichever works well.

So lovely! Our shih tzu didn’t toilet all night (12-7) from day one (at 10 weeks old), and now he has the bladder of a camel. He saves it all up to wee on every single lamppost when we go out.

I took three weeks off work when we got him (over Christmas) so spent hours every day with him in a sling showing him all the things. Men in Hi vis, lorries, ducks, kids, roadworks, herons. Every environment, all sorts of times of day. He’s a very chilled dog anyway, but I think it helped. It also means he loves me best because we spent hours and hours together (Wink).

I also invested in Total Recall by Pippa Mattinson. He’s still shit at recall if there’s another dog. He loves other dogs. Especially big ones.

It’s lots of work but gets easier very quickly. Good luck!

Thank you! He's met lots of people but not many experiences. Yet! Will do tomorrow!

It's been so easy so far and he's so chilled. I'm sure it won't last!
