we have a gorgeous rescue lab cross who loves other dogs but is easily spooked by loud noises /thunder etc. id love another lab pup . we live in a smallish house with q smallish garden but walk daily in the woods. im worried 1: how the dog will cope and 2: how ill cope ( never had to train a little pup, ours was 1 when we got her)
but i do love the idea of another dog. what are your experiences? thankyou

We did it the other way - had a puppy, rehomed an older dog when he was mature. That worked really well, as we had a chance to judge their personalities before committing.
Things to think about - a puppy cannot walk for long until a year - 18 months old, so a lot of separate exercise needed. That can get old.
Labs are generally sociable ime so DDog1 will probably tolerate and help train the puppy, just make sure the older dog can take herself off for peace when she needs.
Personally, I think Labs do well in pairs, we see a lot of them, and it has made a positive difference to both ours.

We got a second dog 2 months ago. Our older dog is generally quite anxious about life and not always great with other dogs. It took a couple of weeks for him to accept the puppy, but now he’s definitely much happier with a friend. We are seeing less anxious behaviour and he’s lost a bit of weight (needed) from playing with the puppy. He’s less worried by other dogs on walks as well.

We got a puppy a month ago. Opposite to the previous poster, our 1 year old has now gained weight (needed!) and is generally so much happier now he has a playmate.
