Does anyone else find their dogs really thirsty after these?

DH bought a box and she had the last one today but I notice each time she eats one she has a big drink of water straight after

It's because they're full of junk, unfortunately. Mostly cereals, fat, oil and "derivatives of vegetable origin" according to their website. Meat and animal derivatives come second to last on their list of ingredients.

I wouldn't buy them.

DeathByWalkies · 02/08/2021 21:22

They're full of junk and DDog will spit them out if offered (and similar cereal based dog biscuits)

I wouldn't buy them

Wolfiefan · 02/08/2021 21:24

Yep as above! I got some free and still binned them. Grin

They should be edible for a human, try one, and see if you also get thirsty.
Just don't read the ingredients label, before or after

RunningFromInsanity · 02/08/2021 21:54

They are quite dry.
They are ok as a treat

pftn · 02/08/2021 22:59

I prefer a custard cream myself !

I rarely give my doggie shop bought biscuits having read what is in some of them There are recipes online for making your own biscuits (having said that I had one or two failures when I made a batch and dog did not like them)
At the vet check I had today for Ruby's vaccination - the vet remarked that she was a good weight and not over fat. My two meals a day, minimising treats and baking dog biscuits seems to be doing the right thing. Sorry if that sounds smug Smile

Mine love gravy bones and we buy from one particular pet shop as the fat content is low. Are they as rubbish?

Most commercial dog biscuits and treats are pretty awful unfortunately.

I'd never buy them (or Dentastix) for my dog - what you want is the fewest amount of ingredients possible, ideally no additives or preservatives etc.

For treats I tend to use tiny amounts of human food (chicken, sausage, cheese) and air dried natural treats like chicken feet or trachea for chews.

Ours live carrots as a treat, either whole, or chopped up into small pieces , then scattered across lawn to forage, or just in a water filled sandpit when it’s hot.
It’s not just about their weight, it’s teeth, health and digestive system. They do get biscuits, but healthier ones, as they also supplement diet with vitamins and minerals

My one loves them Smile
