Can I walk my dog. DD has covid

Can I walk my dog if I’m self isolating? She doesn’t poo in the garden only outside so she really needs a walk twice a day at the very least.
My dog Walker is vulnerable and the only other people she walks with are my in-laws and their very old.
I was going to go out now 5.50am?
It’s so hard to know what to do. She wouldn’t walk with strangers.

Of course you can't - having a dog doesn't suddenly invalidate laws!

OverByYer · 27/07/2021 20:37

I would to, and go early morning/ late evening. I would say it’s more risky handing over a possibly contaminated lead and pop bags on th doorstep to someone else to walk than passing someone outdoors from across the road. The rules make no sense

Branleuse · 27/07/2021 20:41

I would, but id wear a mask and go super early like you did

Zorya · 27/07/2021 20:41

I’m an avid rule-follower, and I would have walked the dog in those circumstances. Especially as you were so careful.

treacletartpudding · 27/07/2021 20:42

This time next month you'd be able to go about your daily business if you're double vaccinated so I really don't see a problem with it!

User5827372728 · 27/07/2021 20:47

@treacletartpudding

Well that’s a date for a reason. They are hoping more people will Be double vaccinated by then.

I’m still awaiting my second dose, as are all my friends

Eleoura · 27/07/2021 20:49

Out of interest, what does your dog do it you don't take it out elsewhere to poo??? Hmm

Okki · 27/07/2021 20:50

I did walk my dog when DD had Covid - we back on to fields. I went out at 5am. When I tried to not go, he didn't do a poo for 48 hrs. I didn't see anyone either. No dog walkers locally who would take him either.

She's hardly going to the pub though is she! She's walking her dog very early in the morning and late at night and not actually seeing anyone.

If my dog doesn’t get taken out twice a day he’s climbing the walls, rampaging about, driving everyone mad getting into stuff that’s not his, attention seeking!

He needs exercise & stimulation, not just to go for a poo, he will go in the garden, going for a walk/run isn’t just about going to the loo.

crumbsnamechange · 27/07/2021 20:59

For God's sake. Yes walk your dog. Use some bloody common sense.

Nettleskeins · 27/07/2021 21:00

We haven't yet been in this position but yes we would take our dog out v early and v late, not the Covid person but a member of house who was self isolating too. Why would it be safe to give dog to a dog walker who has lots of dogs to pass virus on to?

breakfasty · 27/07/2021 21:04

No not meant to. But I think that's incase you have an accident and need help so people have to get close to you.

JayAlfredPrufrock · 27/07/2021 21:06

Can’t believe what I’m reading.

Walk the dog. As often as you want.

LawnFever · 27/07/2021 21:12

@wetotter

No you shouldn't.

Get a friend or neighbour, or a professional walker to do it.

Also google for advice on how to keep,a dog happy, heathy and stimulated when spending more time at home - all the main welfare organisations have advice on this (it's useful for injured, convalescent and infectious dogs, as well as those with potentially infectious owners)

Why should a friend, neighbour or dog walker put themselves at risk?

That’s actually more risky than a person going out on their own early/late and avoiding other people, it makes no sense whatsoever Confused

Anyone suggesting a dog could be mentally stimulated enough inside for a 10 day isolation period has never had an average dog.

Lanique · 27/07/2021 21:58

We've just been through the same circs and yes we walked our dog. I didn't want to put a friend or a sitter (even IF we'd managed to find one) in the awkward position of potentially exposing them to the virus via contact with our household. Our dog needs walking twice a day!

Darkchocolateandcoffee · 27/07/2021 22:05

Yes I did when teens had covid. Went early and late and kept well away from anyone.

Branleuse · 27/07/2021 22:21

@Ihaventgottimeforthis

I would. I'd say I was walking my dog to Barnard Castle to check my eyesight, only doing what any responsible dog parent would do, was part of the same pilot scheme that the PM had joined. I'd go out early, go to my quietest spots. And test daily.
Perfect
wetotter · 28/07/2021 15:44

Why should a friend, neighbour or dog walker put themselves at risk?

Why would they be at risk?

Professional dog walkers have been working ever since the end of the first lockdown, and can take dogs from isolating households - SD for the handover, use their own lead rather than one handled by a potentially infectious person, wash/gel hands frequently.

If it's too risky for a planned SD handover, then it's definitely too risky for the person to leave their premises

mewkins · 28/07/2021 16:01

Well the fact that a friend of mine who had three people with covid living with her and was told she could be part of the experiment to go about her daily business (eg. Go and sit in an office with 29 other people, to the supermarket etc) suggests that the government really don't believe anyone passes on Covid anyway. And like someone else said, in a few weeks double jabbed people can carry on as if covid never happened. I'd do whatever you need to, OP.
