Taking himself to bed

It is just past 9 p.m. here. DDog has just been out with me for his bedtime wee.

Usually I go to bed to read around now. It is hot tonight and we are hoping it cools down while we watch a movie with doors and windows open,

Dog just got up, sighed, and took himself to bed (on our bed I might add).

What a complete spoiled little prince he is.

Does your dog have a bedtime? Does he take himself?

not bedtime specifically, but he has his routine and gets very cross when we don't bow to his wishes.

Tyrannosaurusdrip · 25/07/2021 05:43

Yup, if we stay up late he takes himself off up the stairs with a sigh and a snort.

Maggiesgirl · 25/07/2021 05:48

Yep, she will come sit in front if me as soon as the news finishes. If u don't go to bed will huff about, go sit in her down bed, sulking and looking back over her shoulder. Eventually will stomp off to the bedroom and go to bed. Has been known to come back half an hour later, glare at me then retreat back to the bedroom.

Fishkettlesgalore · 25/07/2021 05:52

Yes ours like an early night irrespective of what we are doing! They get a bit stressed and crotchety if for any reason (such as visitors) they can't go to bed on time!

LoveFall · 25/07/2021 05:55

How funny they are. I just learned he knows it's 9 o'clock even though the BBC World New theme has not come on, signaling I am going to head for the bedroom.

So cute. But where is his watch?

Often watch the end of programmes on catch up because our lovely lady tells me in no uncertain terms that it’s time for both of us to go to bed .
Sometimes I try explain that the program only has 10 minutes left but it’s in vain she sits very up close and personal not listening to a word I’m saying.
If I’m ever brave enough to ignore her she will go on her own but return a while later poking her head around the door to remind me that my behaviour is totally unacceptable.

Not so much bed, but god forbid her dinner is not served exactly at 6pm. She mithers around the kitchen door, flounces to wherever you are, dramatic lie down, loud sigh, and then stares at you like have failed in the most basic way and never will she forgive you. By this point it's usually about 6:02 ...

You gotta love them. DH and I now in the same (Canadian king sized so big) bed. Ddog was curled up in her cuddler bed at the foot of ours. He just stealth snuck up the bed as his first sortie into position beside my pillow once I drop off.

He is lucky he is small, cute and loveable.

Our old dog used to do this, he was spoiled , had a bed in living room and one upstairs.. if we were up late or he had been on a long walk that day he would stand and look at the living room door (meaning he wants us to open it) and off he would go up to his bed LOL very sweet

CobraChicken · 25/07/2021 06:27

Mine's not so mardy about bedtime, but he is not an early riser. DS2 sent me this photo when I was out of town for a medical appointment yesterday morning - it was 9am!! Grin

Our Miniature Schnauzer Ralph is less than four months old and is starting to have the run of the house in “safe” times of the day. Apart from the kitchen our floors are wood and very porousWink.
Yesterday in the after-lunch lull we were all in different rooms and he could have stayed with any of us.
Nope, he took himself off to his crate for a snooze.
Sorted.

Yes in this house 😂 one of the dogs sleeps in our bed and first they have to have bedtime biscuits at 9pm then if we stay up, he’ll pop up on our bed but if we come to bed late-dear god-the sighing and huffing and puffing like an old man because we’ve disturbed him -

Mollymalone123 · 25/07/2021 06:39

During the day he’s bouncy and sweet and crazy but after 9pm turns into a right old biddy 😂

Lonecatwithkitten · 25/07/2021 07:45

After 8pm both dogs are literally upside down on sofas or the floor. Both have to be woken to go for a wee at 10pm and sigh about this. Unfortunately this means they always wake at 6am!

SimonJT · 25/07/2021 07:49

Ours takes himself to bed, although he recently started to develop a habit of Shiba screaming when we woke him up for a last wee before bed, that was a fun phase.

Oh this is SO my dog.

Except his clock is a bit off, so he does that from 5:30, and heaven help you if you decide to start cooking earlier, because then obviously his dinner needs to be earlier too...
