Hi can anyone help please we go out lots of days out with our dog and my best friend loves to come and walk him too. I’m going to make a backpack up with some essentials for when we are taking him out all day that I can easily pass to my friend too. Can anyone advise of anything you think would be useful and I’m thinking of adding in a small doggy first aid kit but not sure what to include. Hoping to keep it as lightweight as possible as my friend goes on lots of hill walks xx

Folding bowl for water/food
Refillable bottle for water
Anti bacterial hand wipes (for them)
Saline wipes (individually wrapped ones) for cleaning any wounds
Micropore tape and gauze
A ziplock back to keep the medical stuff in (can be taped onto a paw to cover a wound dressing)
Tick removal tool/tweezers (if they know how to use them)
A card with the name and phone number of your dog’s vet and your dog’s insurance details in an inside pocket

Forgot the scissors!

The folding bowl and water is on there for first aid reasons. Cuts to paws or something stuck in the paw is a common injury. It can be really hard to see what’s going on when they have longer hair or their feet are very muddy. A swish of the paw in a bowl of water and you can see the cut or foreign object better.

Put a dog comb in too. If you walk on moors always brush dog down before getting in car - ticks.

Treats.
Water (more than you think you'll need)
Collapsible water bowl.
Tick removal tool.
Basic First Aid Kit including scissors, gauze, tape and dog-friendly wipes for cleaning wounds.
Vet and insurance information in case of injury.

A tennis ball?

My dog recommends this one from Decathlon.

Has bungees on the outsideso you can keep a treat ready on both sides.

My professional dog walker bag contains:-

Dog first aid kit, the one I was given as part of the dog first aid course I took.

Poo bags.

Treats.

A ball.

Hand sanitizer gel.

Collapsible bowl.

My water bottle.

The dog's water bottle.

Insect repellent for me.

Tick tool for both me and dog, in case the insect repellent doesn't work.

Ceterazine (best known brand is Pireteze but Tesco Own are fine) tablets, for me in case of horsefly bites. Amazing! Also I have heard that they are very effective for snakebites for dogs but have no personal experience.

Loperamide tablets for me, best known brand is Imodium. Getting the runs in the middle of nowhere is something I never, ever wish to experience ever again...Grin

A spare slip leash in case of broken harness or collar.

It also contains of course my phone, van keys, house keys, purse, all the clients keys, and anything that I would be really inconvenienced by losing if some toerag did a smash and grab on the van.
