Heat and diarrhoea

Has anyone else noticed that their dog has been having diarrhoea in the last couple of days? Have had a few people mention it - none local so not environmental. Mine's got it really badly which is worry as he's old and diabetic. Just trying to work out whether it's something to do with the weather - the vet thinks it might.

Yes, my dog has been loose over the last couple of days. Coincident with the temperature going up. Hasn't seemed unwell in any other way, but then the poor bugger had his vaccine boosters yesterday as well, resulting in a poonami last night.
I had been wondering if the heat was the possible reason.

I haven’t really noticed this too much but I am on a Facebook group for my dog breed and someone posted about this yesterday. And lots of people came on to say they had noticed it too.

Yes, ours has as she’s not been eating and then scoffed a load of grass that went straight through her. Lots more encouragement to eat has helped get her back on track.

Diarrhoea can be one of the early signs of heatstroke - or at least, a sign that your dog is struggling to cope with the heat.

Mine has been absolutely fine but he's still young and is very good at taking himself indoors or into the shade if he's feeling warm.

I would make sure you keep him out of the sun and make sure he has a good supply of water. You can use cooling mats, damp towels or fans to help him too :) mine is also partial to a frozen treat in the summer!

Agree with @warmfluffytowels that it can be a early indicator of heatstroke so take care to keep doggos cool.

It's good to know that others are having similar problems. It's nit heatstroke with mine - he's being kept indoors and surrounded by fans! He gets a bit hot when he goes out for a pee or liquid poo but does cool off ok.

I, a bit neurotic with him as he's diabetic and has pancreatitis - have been on the phone to the vet at least twice a day with queries about insulin dosages etc 🤦‍♀️. The vet did say again today that it's hot weather and not to expect an improvement until the heat breaks. As I'm in Cornwall it's bloody hot until Thursday.

@GingerAndTheBiscuits I'm doing the same - he isn't allowed cheese but he's a cheese monster so if he's turning down the rice and chicken or salmon and pasta I give him a little bit of cheese and he starts eating. It's not much, but little bits every couple of hours.

Yep, MaePup had the runs over the weekend, then MaeDog had a sloppy poo yesterday. Both hate the heat and barely leave their coolmats at the moment.

Mine had diarrhoea when it turned warmer. She was back to normal after a few days on a light diet.

It's not as hot where I am as further south, but it's hotter than she's used to.

mine has it when it's hot. Normally only for a day and no other signs of illness. We know he's been out too long if this happens & make sure to keep him in more
