Pre-existing conditions

Hi, wonder if you can help please?

I am currently sorting out pet insurance for my dog. I get a “lifetime” policy just in case some health issue becomes apparent and that ends up becoming very expensive. Luckily I have not had to claim anything yet (ddog is 4). My question is this - he had a steroid injection a couple of months ago for severe itchiness, caused by what we don’t know but think maybe seasonal - grass possibly? I just paid for this myself and did not claim, as would have been nowhere near the excess anyway. If I change providers now does this count as a “pre-existing” condition? I am hoping it was just a “one off” but if it does become worse I don’t want to not be able to claim. In which case, might I be better sticking with the same provider rather than switching? Thanks in advance.

Yes it will sadly
Will flag up if skin conditions pop up again and insurance will not cover it.
Vets have to send history with claim so even if you paid yourself will be on the records
Sorry

So best to stick with same insurers then?

You can get insurance with a new company but you have to list the prexisting condition. It puts the price up a little but will cover you if the rash comes back.
We have a 2 year old collie who was born with Gait which we disclosed, she's now insured for the gait should she worsen and require treatment (at the moment it doest seem to bother her to much)
