Jack Russell terrier -Poodle mix. Apparently this is one of the most popular dog cross breeds.

I don’t think crossing breeds is bad as a matter of principle but just cannot see the logic behind this cross. These breeds have roughly opposite temperament…who thought it is a good idea?

@Bebeschitt

I have a JRT living one side of me and a poodle the other. They are both noisy, yappy twats. We open a window, they both bark. We go in the garden, they both bark. Our dog sneezes, they both bark. You get the idea. We live in fairly large semi-detached houses too so not on top of each other. I would hate to see a cross of these two particular specimens. I swear my dog rolls her eyes at them.
"Yappy twats" I'm really sorry for you OP. But I love your terminology!

We also have 2 YTs next door to us.

Shirleyphallus · 18/07/2021 22:06

Ah, a Mumsnet thread being snobbish about cross breeds which in real life are completely acceptable and lovely family pets. How original.

XelaM · 19/07/2021 11:20

@TigerBreath I cannot agree more about Labradors! I have no idea what the appeal is. I haven't yet met a particularly friendly one. One actually randomly attacked my parent's neighbour whilst she was on a walk with her own dog putting her in hospital

XelaM · 19/07/2021 11:22

We also have a JRT cross (not with poodle though) living next door to us and she's definitely a yappy, unfriendly twatty dog (very cute though Blush )

Bebeschitt · 19/07/2021 21:57

@magsbagsfags I have just been watering my veggies and enjoying the swallows swooping around when who should be let out? YT next door.
"Who is it Fatty*, is someone out there", the neighbour asked the YT.
"It's bloody me, I was enjoying the peace", I shouted back.
Twats. Yappy ones.
*name changed to protect YT identity

magsbagsfags · 19/07/2021 22:05

OMG!!! Did you really??? That’s awesome!!

I think I might find the courage to do them same!! Anti-YTs unite!!!

Bebeschitt · 19/07/2021 22:28

I was only brave because he is deaf as a post. And YT was drowning me out!

joystir59 · 19/07/2021 22:31

I've got a JRT that could've benefitted from.being crossed with something very docile and mild mannered. He's a yappy twat of the first order, as well as nippy, hyper, moody and stubborn. I love him beyond measure, because he's also loyal, loving, funny, intelligent, will walk miles and miles at my side.

fruitpastille · 19/07/2021 23:13

You can get rough coated Jack Russells - they don't have you be crossed with poodles to get a shaggy coat. Mine is very loyal, affectionate with all the family and only occasionally yaps when feeling threatened. Easiest dog ever. No idea if she has poodle in the mix though.

Wolfiefan · 19/07/2021 23:17

I met a lovely chi cross today.
I think the key with crosses is to figure out if you could cope with the worst of each breed.
Plus health issues. Parents tested?
Breeder or rescue?
I despair of people who churn out cute looking crosses for £££££.
There’s nothing innately “bad” about a cross.
Grew up with a bloody lovely lab cross. A rescue accident.

CottageCore · 20/07/2021 09:56

My ‘Jackapoo’ is bloody lovely. Clever, energetic, lovely snuggles and can run for miles. No breathing difficulties (hello flat faced dogs!) and I have him because I met both the sire and the dam multiple times and they were wonderful dogs.

What’s with mumsnet and the ‘dog cross’ prejudice? Hmm

trimbletramble · 20/07/2021 14:25

Hear hear @cottagecore!

People should stop being mean about other people's dogs.

Wolfiefan · 20/07/2021 15:07

It’s not prejudice against the fact a dog is a cross.
It’s prejudice against puppy farmers and BYB.
Potential owners also need to be realistic. A cross could have the very best or the very worst of each breed. Can they manage those attributes? Energy levels? Grooming etc etc.

MsAdoraBelleDearheartVonLipwig · 20/07/2021 15:57

@TigerBreath I hope you weren’t insinuating that I said anything rude or hurtful. I just said that you can never guarantee which coat you’ll get in a cross breed. Which is perfectly true. Unless you’re in possession of a crystal ball. And it’s not just the coat that some people are allergic to, it’s the dander as well. If you know you’re allergic to dog fur but you can cope with poodle fur then just buy a bloody poodle.

thistimelastweek · 20/07/2021 16:12

We met a Yorkiepoo the other day that definitely dared the worse of the two breeds. It was like a loo brush on steroids.

'And that', said my husband, ' is why you don't mess with terriers.'

thistimelastweek · 20/07/2021 16:13
  • fared not dared.
Wolfiefan · 20/07/2021 16:13

🤣
My wolfhounds have that figure out!
I know cockerpoos that look like cockers and some that look like poodles. And even in the same litter. Plus characteristics can vary hugely.

MrsElijahMikaelson1 · 20/07/2021 16:29

My cockapoo is infinitely more cocker than poo. Doesn’t yap and is the friendliest happiest girl that I can take literally anywhere without bother. However, she is a runner and a bit of a knob tbh and is very stubborn but I love the bones of her. She has really long hair weirdly but doesn’t shed so we do have to get her clipped. She looks like hairy mclary from Donaldson’s dairy🤣🤣🤣

GinPink · 20/07/2021 16:33

Seriously what is the point of this thread? Do you just want to upset people who have bought a Jackapoo? Will that make you feel better about yourself?

wetotter · 20/07/2021 16:38

Once again, some people have allergies and really like terriers

Then they're probably better off getting one of the low allergenic, low shedding terrier breeds, rather than a cross breed whose coat qualities with be a gamble.

RandomMess · 20/07/2021 16:40

Poodles are very intelligent and most ones with challenging behaviour are due to lack of appropriate stimulation etc.

Terriers especially JRT seem to often have dominant genes.

Careful decent breeding is actually about choosing dogs that don't have genetic or other health conditions. 40 years ago I think far far more people didn't have a pedigree dog!

We're not 100% sure our is a parsons or just a random JRT mix 😂 she's a neurotic rescue that loves cuddles, sun, sleep, walks.

Direstraitsmates · 20/07/2021 16:41

Aw, I love Hairy McClary. She sounds ace!

wetotter · 20/07/2021 16:44

@TheDogsMother

I want a JR Shih Tzu cross. Because it would be a Jack ......
I've met two Jack Russell x Norfolk

Strangely, neither owner used a shortened name for the type!
