Insurance costs

Hi all
I am due to renew a Petplan covered for life policy, £80 a month Shock doggo has a couple of ongoing (and claimed for.... but to the tune of hundreds not thousands!) conditions one of which is elbow dysplasia. Is there any option for us to move to a different insurer without losing her cover for life? I'm guessing not but the cost of staying is absolutely bonkers!
Doggo is 6 years old (goodness knows how much it'll be when she's older!)

You can switch but they probably won't cover pre-existing conditions (like the dysplasia).

It depends whether you could afford thousands of pounds for surgery and aftercare if it ever became necessary in the future?

Thank you! Definitely looking for one that would cover pre existing conditions but I suspect it's unlikely...

I think there are some that will cover them if you've not claimed within x months, but I couldn't tell you which ones they are!

How much cover are you getting for £80?

I think bought by many do pre-existing policy but think it has to be something not requiring treatment for year or 2, definitely need to read through all the details.

Elbow dysplasia and resulting arthritis can easily rack up big bills so I'd be wary of having that uncovered in future. They often group for pre-existing so it may not just be elbows that are excluded. Are there any other things (except vaccination) dog has seen vet for that are on your notes whether or not claimed for?

Is it possible to increase your excess to reduce the cover price , we have life cover with Direct Line and that’s what I did .

It might be worth looking at Bought by Many. I think they have a policy that covers pre-existing conditions.

Our 8 year old labrador petplan renewal is £65/month for just £4k cover. It is expensive but they have paid out for mri's and surgery etc in the past when needed so I wouldn't be without it now or risk switching, but think, sadly, it will put me off having a dog again in the future
