Hi,
Our dpup is 5.5 months now snd always used to be a fairly good sleeper. Happily in his crate from.sroynd 10 until 6. Recently it has been getting earlier and earlier and now its 4.20!
I know he can hold his bladder but he does goe out for a wee and a poo then back to sleep with us on the sofa.
We have tried leaving him to hold it a bit but he whines so loudly and then barks and its unfair if he needs the loo. We have tried putting him back in his crate but he will bark and while until he is let out and will sleep on the sofa.
He is teething but he will happily sleep again on the sofa.
Any ideas gratefully received as we are shattered!

Maybe you should get rid of the crate and leave him on the sofa he may be more comfy there. You could come down to let him out them settle him and go back to bed yourself. Is he getting enough excess exercise in the evening to tire him out

MrsHerculePoirot · 15/07/2021 07:17

What time do you feed him? Would tweaking that help with the 430 wake up?

We had similar although st a younger age. He would just want to get out of crate and onto sofa. Once we left the crate door open he just comes out when he feels like it or just starts on the sofa. It’s saved our sleep!

Mine started at 5:10 this morning. I did the doggy equivalent of cry it out and he went back to sleep (my other dog is also next to his crate). He can hold his bladder.

I wonder if he’d sleep longer if he wasn’t in the crate ?
Darker nights are coming, so hopefully that will help as well.

BBOA · 15/07/2021 07:25

Agree with @Skyla2005. Walk in the evening helped us too. Can you make the room any darker as it’s probably getting light then? I’d ditch the crate!

BarkingUpTheWrongRoseBush · 15/07/2021 07:30

Ours did this for a couple of months about the same age, felt never ending but she grew out of it.

She stopped using the crate to sleep in too, she was in the bedroom so would wake us up to go out. She likes to move around the room in the night so I’m glad we stopped using the crate.

She’s much happier sleeping in a bed.

Mrstreehouse · 15/07/2021 07:32

Don’t crate him.

pumpkinpie01 · 15/07/2021 07:33

Is the crate covered with a dark sheet?

Blueuggboots · 15/07/2021 07:40

We had to move our Ddog's meal times around so she didn't need a poo in the middle of the night. Dinner time was 3pm. Nothing after that! Slept from 10.30-7.

Ilikewinter · 15/07/2021 07:43

Our winterpup is 11 weeks (had him from 8 weeks) and we have in him the kitchen, im in the front room inching my way back to upstairs!. Hes now waking at 4am for a wee and wont settle, ive given in the last 2 days and let him in the front room with me. He sleeps almost immediately until about 7am. I fear this is now my life 🙈😂

warmfluffytowels · 15/07/2021 08:23

What time are you feeding him and when is his last walk/poo break?

I agree with others that if he's not destructive I would see how he goes out of the crate. Mine sleeps in our bed and I have to turf him out every morning Grin

Girlintheframe · 15/07/2021 08:27

Is something disturbing him?
Its light very early, could that or something else be waking him up?

I wouldn't ditch the crate, not if he's been sleeping in there happily. Puppies get into all sorts.

Overthinker84 · 15/07/2021 11:01

Thanks for the tips. I am thinking I may leave the crate door open and see how he goes. He has his dinner at 7pm. We used to walk him in the evening but have mixed it up to during the day. He is pretty relaxed too when we go back to bed and sleeps in the sofa with us.
