Unconditional Love - not my dog?

Having grown up with dogs, especially an exceptional border collie I believed dogs unconditional love was the best.

Now I have a little mongrel. Adorable, cute but what a little diva.

There are so many conditions:

Tummy- tickle time
Squeaky ball time
Dog food may not be what I fancy
3 walks and a swim each day

Her attentions are definitely fickle and I have to measure up.

Lots of conditions here!

Maybe she's a cat at heart Grin

If it’s just recently joined you it may take a while for the bond to grow, sounds like she has you wrapped around her little paw! If she didn’t love you she wouldn’t be badgering you for walks and tickle time! She is obviously just very clever…..!

Not a new addition just a demanding little diva. There is something cat-like about her but most importantly she makes me laugh and smile every day.

Wouldn’t change a thing!

What breed is she? We have a Jack Russell, and she's very loving, but less total adoration for humans than the colie and lab we had when I was growing up. She's far more independent, but actually I really like the fact you have to win her over a bit. She's certainly no doormat, but is very much 'the more you put into the relationship with her, the more you get out'.

Neighbour has a retriever, and it's stupidly devoted to their not very kind child.

My Newfie has unconditional love for all children. I get asked by children I don't even know to bring her on the school run for cuddles and everyday come 3pm she looks at me with big eyes begging me to bring her.

But me and other adults? She can take or leave us all. Once the kids are in bed for the evening we don't see her, she just sleeps on her own sulking. We may be allowed to walk her or give her belly rubs but it must be on her terms. For an affectionate breed she certainly is selective 😂

Mine loves us.. (especially me :D ) and NO-ONE else!
She won't even take treats from anyone not well known to her.
Ignores adoring children, adoring adults... diva!

Outrageous thread Angry

Where are the photos?! Grin

Ylvamoon · 11/07/2021 01:47

... I have 3.

One wants to walk all day every day. The other 2 don't. (I'm the human pulling on the lead! Shock
Dog food is definitely not good enough for any of them. (But will be eaten after a few hours hunger strike - just so the others don't get it!)
The only way they can truly relax is either on my lap or laying across my feet.
Once they are comfy, I get the "if looks coud kill" treatment if I dare to get up.

They all self identify as cats.

I have two dogs , a lab cross and a JR Cross.
The lab X is very affectionate , tbh too much. He needs to be near me staring at me all the time. He pushes the JR away to get affection first. I have to look where I'm walking as he will lay behind me when I'm cooking.
My JR Cross loves a cuddle , a tummy rub , to be chatted too but loves these things in short bursts and then wants to lay on her own.
I think my Xlab has an unhealthy mix of lab and poodle traits as these breeds were bred to retrieve and please, the cross result means he needs to be so close to the point of ridiculous and causes him anxiety if he's not right by me.

BewaretheIckabog · 12/07/2021 22:20

Mine is the dreaded poodle cross. She is rescue - unwanted but don’t think ever abused.

She adores me, she knows I adore her but she has her terms.

I actually think she’s very clever! And love her more for it.

Have lived with a fantastic border collie, two German Shepherds and a mad mongrel but she’s the most demanding.
