Random minor peeing problem...

I suspect there’s very little to be done about this, but thought I’d see if anyone had any ideas.

Ddog keeps peeing on his own front legs, lol.

He’s 9 months, had him about 4 months - unknown mixed breed and relevantly a bit leggy.

He does now lift his leg sometimes, still squats sometimes... either position he’s leaning forward and it hits his front legs.

Any ideas on teaching a dog better aim? Rofl

It may get better as he grows - it may just be anatomy.

Sorry tmi but look at his penis hair (if he has any) the bit at the end can affect direction of pee so sometimes cutting that helps (not often!)

Reward like crazy when he cocks his leg as he grows it is less likely to go on front legs

Try to get him to wee on a slope (yep really easy to do not!) but that tends to help.

Is it every wee? Some dogs tend to wee on legs when they have a big wee so first thing in the morning.

Some dogs dont mind you slightly moving their hips back so slightly increasing the distance between the front and back legs- something to practise when not weeing and then you can add this behaviour to a wee.

Its hard managing those long legs and being a slightly gangly teenager bless him Smile

He’s short coated - nothing much to trim down there tbh...I mean, obviously he’s not bald, lol, but not much to get in the way.

Oh and yeah, he’s more likely to do it with longer pees, but it’s not just the first one of the day and he gets out regularly, so he’s rarely desperate.

I don’t have a slope handy... wonder if I could get him to stand on something to pee? Lol

I think that’s pretty much the entire issue, he has no clue where any part of him is just now, rofl. He always looks slightly shocked when it happens, poor wee thing Grin he is at least just cocking his leg instead of holding up full length in the air like some weird dog yoga position.

A friend had this issue with his Cavalier. It does become a very smelly problem. His dog peed in its armpits and ended up having corrective surgery on the angle of the urethra.

Oh it’s definitely just an aim issue...

He starts to pee, I think he stops paying attention, and it hits the back of his wrist he goes Shock and readjusts and it’s fine again... like when you’re teaching a boy to pee standing up, only you can’t say, aim at the toilet!! Lol

I’m not actually worried about it so much as hoping he grows out of it as he realises where his limbs actually are... and wondered if anyone had tips for getting a dog to aim slightly better, though I thought thats probably fairly unlikely, rofl - because having to clean his legs most days not ideal.

I've been thinking about this more ( things you think about!)

I wondered if your taught your dog to be more aware of front and back legs. Always a good exercise to teach them anyway.

If you get them stacking on books you could then gently increase the distance so the back legs are further from the front. As this position becomes more natural it may then happen with the weeing. In any case it will help with core strength and be fun to do.

This video uses fitpaws. I would use a small platform of books to stand on.

Hmm - yeah, I’ve not done anything like that with him, but he could probably do with some spatial awareness generally tbh, lol, he’s not large, but his legs are definitely from a bigger dog

Dunno about books though, I’m still trying to convince him they’re not for him as it is... he’s very sure all paper is for him to play with. Hmm but I could probably think of something less attractive.
