I have an 11 month old mini and am wondering how typical our day is. We have a kind of routine and am wondering about how levels of training/ stimulation/ sleep compare to others.

I am generally working from home at the moment.

So our day usually goes a bit like this:

  • Wake up around 7.30 - 8.30 depending on whether it's working day or weekend. Settles on our bed until we go downstairs.
  • Greets cats and watches them have their breakfast.
  • Patrols garden and living room to check all is well.
  • Settles in kitchen with a food puzzle or game (little bit of dried food scattered or to find in a box)
  • Out for a walk around 9/930 for an hour.
  • Breakfast when we get back.
  • Settles on the kitchen sofa for a nap for the rest of the morning.
  • Out in the (v small) garden at lunchtime for a sniff around
  • Bit of playtime and some training
  • Greets DH with wild excitement when he gets home at around 3.30 - has a game and more garden sniffing
  • Might have another sleep around 3/ 330.
  • Second walk of the day any time between 4.30 and 5,30 - between 45 mins and an hour.
  • Dinner at around 6.
  • Hangs out in kitchen while someone cooks, often brings toys to us for a game during this time. Normally a bit hyper from around 6.30 - 7.30/ 8 so will have a chew of some kind.
- Settles to sleep in living room between 8 and 9.
  • Comes up to bed with us any time between 10 and 11.

I am new to dog ownership although we had a dog when I was a kid - I mostly remember her sleeping all the time and chucking her an occasional ball!

Mini Poodle 8 months. Week days awake at 7am and 30 mins walk before I get kids ready for school. Then his brekky (doesn't always eat much). Mini sleep from 08.30 - 09.30. I work from home and have bursts of training, 'find it' in garden and then walk at 11am for 45 mins - 1hr. Lunch 12.30pm and then a good sleep til about 2.30pm. Happily mills around house/garden and dinner at 5.30pm. Sleep after dinner. Then an eve walk around 7.30pm 45 mins. Conks out abut 09.30pm and last bedtime wee around 10.30pm/11.00pm. Weekend later bedtime and later wake up call. I need to up the training/brain games as he has been restless in the mornings lately when I have been on computer, which makes me feel a bit guilty. Bursts of playing ball in the garden throughout the day (I kick the ball) he chases it.

Hey op!

I have a two year old minipoo. We did have a routine for her when she was little which mainly consisted of structured play and sleep but looking back now I wish we hadn't worried or been so obsessive!

They are super intelligent and will very quickly adapt to your daily routine.

Now if her routine changes she will just sleep extra the next day to catch up (or pester us to play if we haven't given her quite enough exercise or stimulation).

I would say as a puppy the main thing you want to fit in is training - but in manageable bursts Smile

I agree with pp. Relax and don't worry too much about it.

My mini is now 3 and from around 12-18 months he just totally started to fit in to what we are doing.

I home educate my kids so we don't have a set routine for any one day. Different groups for different days.

Some days he will have 30-60 minutes walk, others it's a few hours and some days (especially when it's raining as he hates going out in the rain) he might just get a walk/drag round for 10 minutes.

If we are sat about he will be. If we are in the garden, so is he. If it's an outdoor group he gets a longer walk and cafe visit while I hang around waiting for it to finish.

Poodles are clever and definite people centred. Just a chat and a little game/10 minutes training gives them a lot too.

He gets a lot of attention from my kids. They love training him little tricks, or making up games with him too. That's as valuable as a walk too.

Enjoy your poodle.

Our 15 month old has a fairy similar routine! He wakes up, has a 20 min walk then breakfast. Sleeps the morning away, then has a bouncy 2 hours over lunch. Sleeps afternoon away then big walk at 530 and dinner after. Chilled evening.

Sounds great and I have nothing to add but @Puppypuppypuppy I love the sound of the dog 'greeting the cats'. We have a cockapoo pup and 2 cats and although things are going pretty well I sometimes wonder if we will ever get to the stage when they can be in the same room together for any length of time! How did you do it? Any tips? Smile

Ah, I remember the evening zoomies! Why do they do that?! Very cute though.
