Panic / don't panic: Travel to NI - rabies booster timing

Just booked dog's rabies booster for planned holiday to Northern Ireland. This will be 18 days before travel. Rules suggest we must wait 21 days before travel if 'primary' vaccination, but not entirely clear if this also applies for booster. Will we be turned away at the ferry port? Should I reschedule departure to comply with 21 days? Views appreciated!

In my understanding if the previous rabies vaccine has not expired and the booster has been done then you do not have to wait 21 days.

But there is loads of added complication if you are using the dates from the old pet passport of if you have a new AHC.

I would contact your vet to confirm.

When are you going? Looks like they are not checking now until October 2021 (was July 2021 a month ago). Why don’t you ring Daera-ni? www.daera-ni.gov.uk/articles/travelling-pets#toc-1

If it’s a booster and was done in date (ie before the ‘valid until’ date of the previous vaccine in your passport) then you don’t need to wait 21 days.

However if your booster is done in the UK then the UK vet can’t sign your passport and would need to issue an Animal Health Certificate.

Thanks to all - dog vaccinated and will hope no checks as article suggests. Can't wait to see Northern Ireland for the first time!
