Anyone taken their dog to France June 2021

My dss1 lives in France. Before the pandemic our dog always came with us on his pet passport.

My dh took the dog to the vets last week and discussed what we needed to do to take the dog to France now we are not in the EU and the vet sort of said it would be better not to take the dog with us at the moment as it was all very unsure about how it now works. (He did tell us how it works but it all sounds quite vague).

My dh is not in the best of health, although at the moment his disease is very stable. He desperately wants to visit his ds. We had been planning to go by mid July (all things allowing etc, although tbh I can’t see it happening but that’s a side issue).

So my questions is has anyone gone abroad with their pet and returned ok within the past few months. Many thanks.

I'm about to take our dog to Germany in July. I was told that you need to get a health card of sorts from the vet 10 days before you travel and he needs to have an extra rabies vaccination, but that was all. Didn't seem to be overly complicated

Where are they in France? There is always the option to meet half way on one of the channel islands. No need for passport or checks to take dogs there.

Thanks but almost Italy. They have a holiday business which is why we need to go to them as they’ve had no guests for months and now they are getting a few and are desperate for the money. Our local kennels is fully booked or he’d go there.

I was hoping to hear from someone who has made a recent trip with their pet.

I have completed a number of AHCs for people travelling - they are a beast of a document 10 pages of A4 in two languages that require careful completing, multiply items crossed out and then we have to stamp and sign in a frenzy on every page and by every area we crossed out. Then a photocopy has to be made of the entire document. At the moment this takes 45 minutes to complete. Vets are handing back their OV stamps ( the qualification required to complete) as they are so difficult and stressful. The rules on completing them twice in the last six months. These rules changes are dropped in among the multiple brief notes we get a week on bird flu, Swine fly etc.

Thank you for explaining. Looks like he won’t be coming, luckily he loves the kennels. Hoping we get a cancellation place.

Just to let you know if anyone wants to travel with their fogs, my parents and daughter just drove our dog to Germany via France.

He needed a health certificate from the vet (no more than 10 days before travel) and an up to date rabies vaccination (done at least 30 days before travel). They also check at the border that the dog is microchipped.

The health certificate takes about a day to obtain (the dog went in for a health check in the morning and then we could leave and pick up the heath certificate in the evening). It cost £180.

In the grand scheme of things, it wasn't that difficult. Dog successfully passed border control Smile

Dogs* (not fogs)

Just wondering if anyone has (since I posted this in July) taken a dog to France and come back ok without any problems?

There's a really good group on Facebook all about AHCs.

There's also now vets specialising in doing them.

The group is excellent.

Wombat49 · 21/10/2021 18:00

It's called Animal Health Certificates!

catndogslife · 24/10/2021 18:08

We have done it in September OP.
What would you like to know?

tizwozliz · 31/01/2022 10:47

Those who have done it @XelaM and @catndogslife - what did you do about food?

catndogslife · 02/02/2022 07:37

We took a brand of food that's made in the EU.
