Morning all,

We are picking our new baby up on Tuesday and I am just having a wobble that I have forgotten something. Anyone around to chip in?

I've got-

A playpen
A crate
A leash
A collar
Puppy pads
Food bowl
Water bowl
Vet is booked for Wednesday
Waterproof car seat cover
Kong and toys
Puppy food
Carpet cleaner
Puppy shampoo
A harness for later
Car seat belt for later
Puppy sling until he can go on the ground
Portable water thingy

What have I forgotten?

Picture of our new boy, just because...

What do I need before I pick our pup up?

He's gorgeous. Can't think of anything else you'll need, but you WON'T need puppy pads - just confuses them and they think they can wee in the house.

GeorgieTheGorgeousGoat · 13/06/2021 10:39

Blankets, towels, chews, poo bags, insurance

Ughmaybenot · 13/06/2021 10:39

Sounds like a good list, very comprehensive, but I agree with the above, don’t use puppy pads, just teach them straight from the off to go outside, otherwise they’re learning and then you’re changing the goalposts etc.
He’s absolutely beautiful, I’m very jealous. Enjoy 😊

Ughmaybenot · 13/06/2021 10:40

Oh insurance is a good one!!

Greenfinger39 · 13/06/2021 10:41

Look at those paws. He won't be a baby for long! Beautiful.

tonystarksrighthand · 13/06/2021 10:41

Defo on the puppy pads, it just encourages them to wee in the house. Chews, LOTS of chews!

MarchionessDeCamden · 13/06/2021 10:41

The puppy pads are just for lining the bottom of the play pen, I am hoping to do the whole outside thing straight off.

I've got poo bags

I haven't thought about insurance yet as I was waiting to ask the vet if they do a direct payment relationship with anyone. Probably should have a quick look online though to price it up.

To the PP that mentioned his feet... they are massive! He is going to be a great big chunky boy, like his dad!

Bedding to go in his crate.

A billion different chews. Hard ones and soft ones and cloth ones and rope ones and and and. All the things for chewing, in every different texture.

Lots of kitchen roll and an enzymatic cleaner, for managing leaks.

A yard long tuggy, so you can play with him at a distance when he’s bitey.

Wine.

Lots of fleece blankets - quick to wash and dry, but check for chewing and ingestion. There’s a place called The Clothing Warehouse near me that sells secondhand ones for £1 each. Small ones are more practical.

Grooming brush - doesn’t need to be anything fancy or specific right now, but start using it soon to get pup used to being groomed.

Dog toothbrush (don’t worry about toothpaste at the moment) - again, gets them used to having their teeth/mouth inspected.

Whilst you’re considering insurance, think about joining the Dogs Trust - membership is £25 a year (£12.50 for over 60’s) and gives you £1m 3rd party public liability cover, unlimited access to Vetfone (a 24 hour emergency advice service from veterinary professionals) plus other benefits. I don’t have traditional insurance for my dogs anymore due to cost/age (money put aside each month instead) but public liability is a must).

Kitchen roll/old tea towels/big bottle of water/change of fleece blanket to be kept in the car at all times to deal with accidents quickly!

Good luck, he looks lovely! Smile

Simple Solution spray. It destroys the urine smell to help prevent puppies 're-marking' by coming back to pee on the same spot indoors.

A pair of slip on shoes, by the back door, for 3am toilet trips

puginamug · 15/06/2021 13:55

I'm blatantly just marking my place on this list.
