What are you feeding your 4 month old cocker spaniel?

Puppy came to us on a mix of James well beloved kibble and pouches, we couldn't get the pouches for a while so tried wainwright's pouches mixed with jwb kibble - she didn't like it. Had to grab all a small Asda had which was their own brand hero puppy pouches which she seemed to enjoy mixed with her usual kibble and was cheaper than jwb but concerned about the quality.... she's now gone off the jwb pouches so I'm looking for recommendations of what your pups eat. I am not sure what I'm looking for really prob still a mix of wet and dry food, not raw at this stage. Not too expensive but good quality.

I feed my 15 week old cocker raw (Natural Instinct). It has been MUCH easier than I expected. Sometimes she has Millie's Wolfheart kibble for breakfast so I can scatter it round the garden and get a bit of peace!

My cocker puppy has been on AVA medium. Really happy with it. I would move him onto Wellness Core, but can't afford that!

Aria20 · 09/06/2021 08:56

I will look at Ava today as I have a free bag from pets at home so might give it a try. Don't know if it's the heat making pup eat less or she is just fussy!

Mine is also on raw but, like a pp, one that comes done rather than doing it myself. Mine's on Honey's.

Enb76 · 09/06/2021 09:36

Oh and mine seems to have an aversion to chicken, it does not agree with her. She will eat it reluctantly if it is put before her but I would regret it later.

My cocker is 8 months now. When she was around 4 months she really went off food, we tried all sorts. I believe its common at that age for them to go off food as they're teething and it hurts them. We went on butternut box (eventually, after trying all sorts) with kibble mixed in. A few weeks later she started eating around the kibble. It was a very last resort though because its so expensive, and takes half the freezer up. But we spent a lot going through the motions of her rejecting everything else Gin Now she's older and less fussy/teeth all in I'm going to look to moving her onto something more sustainable so watching this post with interest

I have two cocker spaniels - they're fed on raw but if I ever had to switch them to dry food I'd go with something like Akela or Millie's Wolfheart.

Aria20 · 09/06/2021 16:12

Had a look at Ava today seems to only be chicken flavour available which is a shame.

@Cockle1234 like the look of butternut box but is it really expensive long term and is it just basically cooked food?

Thinking maybe trying either millies wolf heart, Eden or orijen if anyone can recommend?

@Aria20 My Dora won't work for Millie's Wolfheart as a training treat but will eat it scattered around the garden. It does smell a bit!

Aria20 · 11/06/2021 06:19

@mynameisnotmichaelcaine I've decided to try millies wolfheart so ordered a puppy pack of countryside mix so when it arrives I'll gradually mix it in and see how we get on!
