Are these flea eggs? Photo included TW

Two year old dog has started scratching. I was hoping it was due to the hot weather last weekend and that she needed a clip.

The dog groomer has given her a number 4 and this red mark has appeared on her chest. They are flea eggs, aren’t they? The eggs are not visible to the naked eye and I can only see them when I enlarge the photo.

Now, this is where I need some help from lovely experienced dog owners.

Dog has been using the 3-monthly flea/worm tablets prescribed to her by the vet. Her next dose is not due until July

Can the vet give me an early top up? If I go to a pet shop today and buy flea powder and topical lotion, will it cause an adverse reaction with her current tablets?

I can phone the vet tomorrow but is there anything I can do today? I can’t find any critters in her fur but it doesn’t help that she has a thick coat (black with a white bib - the red marks are only visible in one area on her bib).

Thanks in advance. And yes, I need to spray the house and replace her bed, don’t I?

Flea eggs are invisible to the naked eye. Flea dirts are visible, but are black and bleed out red when put on damp kitchen roll.
This looks more like clipper rash, the groomer may have accidental caught her with the clippers, it happens very easily. Keep clean and don't let her lick and it should settle.

Trying to work out what way round she is. Should she have a bald patch there? Is her harness rubbing?
Use a nit comb, wipe on white tissue, if black dust smudges red, you have fleas.
Groomers usually spot fleas.

Thank you. My groomer is very good but it’s easily done, I suppose.

Re the photo- head is at the top (out of view) and her front paws are at the bottom. The red mark is on her chest just above her front paws (ie below her throat, if that makes sense).

I’ve changed her lead and I wonder if it got caught around her and rubbed?

I will give her a good comb now so thanks for the info about the flea dirt (the little black dots on her). I think I confused the dirt with the eggs Blush

Flea eggs are visible, they are very small and white so you will usually find them in bedding if there are fleas as they fall out of the pet's fur

Eczema

Dogdramas · 06/06/2021 14:58

I wondered about eczema. Does it come on with age? We haven’t changed her diet or grooming products at all.

Is she a mini schnauzer?
They can be prone to skin conditions.

Agree with PP re combing onto a white surface, could well be clipper rash though.

Flea eggs are visible, they’re white and pop very satisfyingly. As do fleas

No idea I don't have a dog my mum does. We own cats. Just think it looks like eczema xx

Darklane · 06/06/2021 16:24

Doesn’t look like flea eggs to me, more like a graze from clippers or something rubbing or a bit of a rash.
Dotrythe black specks on white kitchen roller toilet roll, easy way to tell if it’s flea dirt.
Has she got very hot in this weather? Could even be a bit of heat rash. Try keeping her cool & bathing it.

spotcheck · 06/06/2021 16:26

I reckon from clippers too

FeatheredHope · 06/06/2021 16:31

I think it’s just a rash. Possibly from clippers.
Clean the skin and then stick some Sudocrem on it.

Scattyhattie · 06/06/2021 16:36

I vote for clipper rash, I've short haired pups but when they've been done at vets it often goes like that in places.

Dogdramas · 07/06/2021 13:00

The vet doesn’t know what it is but apparently it’s healing nicely so I will keep an eye on it over the next week in case it’s an allergy. Thanks for your reassurance that it isn’t fleas.
