Tick bite lump

Just that really! Our DDog has never had ticks before but I noticed one at the weekend just before she was groomed and it was removed with a special tick removal tool. She’s now got a small red lump where the tick was removed. I’ve googled it and the advice seems contrary - some sites advising a vet visit, others saying often ticks teeth remain & it’s perfectly normal & should last about 2 weeks.

Other than this, she is absolutely fine and perky (no signs of Lyme disease). I’ve sprayed it with silver nitrate a couple of times & it doesn’t seem to be bothering her.

Any first hand experience? I’m loathe to pay a £50 vet bill for something that is nothing but on the other hand, if it needs to be the vets, off we’ll go. My childhood dog nearly died from a disease they’d caught from a tick (this was in Kenya so may not be something dogs can catch in the U.K.) so possibly I’m over thinking this.

Sorry, colloidal silver, not silver nitrate

Our pup had the same after a tick was removed- we did ‘watch and wait’ and he was absolutely fine. We looked out for signs of a local infection and also kept an eye on our dog’s overall health- the redness and lump went within a week or two.

Thank you! It already appears to have shrunk a bit so I think we’ll continue with watch and wait.

My horse has had a few of these recently, the lump protruded more and more then when I wiped it, it fell off and left a red bump which has repeatedly scabbed over and now its almost flat. I've been absolutely smothering it with sudocrem after cleaning. I know different animal but they do seem to self resolve.

I've got the same situation with my dog at the moment (and have had a few times in the past). The body will usually just naturally expel any parts.

Yes we have had this as well and it eventually goes, watch and wait

It's totally normal - my dog had this recently and it's back to normal now Smile

Thanks all!

You can use diluted Hibiscrub on it too - it's good to help keep the area clean. We always keep a bottle in the cupboard!
