Castration

My lovely 2 year old Lab is getting castrated tomorrow 😔 He has to be at the vet at 9. I'm dreading leaving his little face staring at me.
What can I expect afterwards? Will he sleep for the rest of the day? Will he be in pain? I've bought him a babygro but yesterday I out it on him and he hated it, wouldn't even walk in it🤣
As you can tell he's our first dog and I love him to bits ❤

Mine was younger than yours and when he came home he whimpered lots which can be a side effect of the drugs. He was very wobbly.

I used the body suit in the night and then a cone in the day.

My previous lab was 18 months when we had him done. First night he was very tired and then a bit subdued for a couple of days.
He didn't have a cone or suit, he was a good patient.

Mine raced out of the vets and jumped into the car. He appeared fine, the area in question was swollen for a long time afterwards so I don't think it registered that anything was missing. He wouldn't wear a cone so I kept him with me at all times but he completely ignored it. I think we had a really easy time of it.

I just had mine done 2 weeks ago- it is hard and you feel guilty but they bounce back very quickly and they forgive you 😀😀 one word of caution if using the body suit if you have a determined and flexible dog is that they can sometimes get round them! Mine did in the night and chewed his stitches - he didn't pull them out but managed to get an infection, so was on antibiotics and in the suit with a cone as well for an extra week! If you think he can get around either of them (mine could get around both individually) then I would double them up and use both. You do feel mean but they get used to them fast and heal quicker if they can't get at stitches at all. Good luck and hope all goes well 😀😀 i would have lots of long lasting chews and kongs etc ready to entertain them while stuck on limited exercise!

The first evening he was desperately trying to stay awake but kept nodding off and then jerking himself awake again. He needed lots of cuddles.

Mine was wobbly, a bit like a drunkard, at first, and slept loads. The vet gave painkillers. He was fine with the bodysuit which is less of a nuisance to them than a cone, as they keep on walking into door frames etc. I just left the suit on him during the day when supervised, with poppers opened and tucked up so that it looked like a t shirt, so that I didn't have to put it on and take it off. Putting your hand through the neck while holding a biscuit should help. He recovered very quickly, as did my previous Lab.

Thanks everyone! He's had surgery before at 5 months when bitten on his back leg by another dog.
He managed to get round his inflatable cone and chew the stitches🙄 so ended up on antibiotics and a large cone!
Silly question but where is the incision made? At the anus end or the tummy?

Neither, on the scrotum right where his balls are.

Thanks!
