Hyper overtired dog!

We’ve been out today; local seaside town, very dog-friendly, visited loads of times before. My cavapoo will NOT settle. I’m sat in the living room while he’s pacing, crying and panting. He wants DH. DH has just had an hour upstairs with him and needs sleep.

Normally we take him out and he’ll sleep in the car on the way home, then eat his dinner and sleep some more. We’ve had maybe three nights since we’ve had him (he’s 2) where he just won’t settle but nothing this bad!

He hasn’t eaten much today (unusual for him) but has been fine in himself; gone to the loo as normal, eyes, nose, tongue all fine. He’ll sort of settle for DH so I don’t think he’s physically ill. He hasn’t slept at all since he got up at 9 this morning. Any advice?

Sounds maybe a bit uncomfortable or unwell rather than overtired. Maybe tummy pain? Ddog has been like this a couple of times and we linked it to him having been in a local stream each time so think there was something in the water that upset him. Found out friends dog always vomits having gone in that stream so we never go there now.

I’d bring him upstairs and keep a close eye. If he’s still this way in the morning speak with the ver

Also going to suggest he's either feeling unwell or in pain.

Its horrible when they get like this :( id consider calling out of hours vet if it continues much longer.

Check paws and nose etc for any sign of injury or something having got stuck.

Thank you. He is currently upstairs with us and cuddling DH. Will keep an eye and call vet if he doesn’t settle.

Pacing, crying, panting, clingy, won’t eat. Ill and/or in pain. Vets in the morning if he’s not on the mend.

cupsofcoffee · 23/05/2021 07:58

I'm another who says this sounds like pain or nausea.

How is he this morning?

ChrissyPlummer · 23/05/2021 09:53

DH went back down; he slept on the couch, DDog went to sleep on the floor. He seems his usual self today; no panting/pacing/crying. Eating his treats etc.

I forgot to mention in my original post that he’s still intact and was humping a LOT yesterday when we got home. We distract and discourage but he sometimes just can’t seem to calm down. He’s done this on a few occasions but never for this long. I’ll give the vets a call to put my mind at rest. Thanks everyone Smile

I wonder if you came across a bitch that was in heat?

ChrissyPlummer · 23/05/2021 10:24

@Tulipvase possibly, it’s a very dog friendly place.

Ah, I suspect it was a bitch in heat. Once they've smelt it, it takes them forever to settle down afterwards Grin

ChrissyPlummer · 23/05/2021 18:02

I spoke to a nurse from the vets, they weren’t overly concerned as he was eating/drinking/toileting as normal. He’s been his usual self today, if a bit tired (as is poor DH). He was fine on his walk earlier. Currently asleep on my feet and much calmer.

I’ve never seen anything like it @cupsofcoffee. DH said they eventually went to sleep at around 4:30.
