What are we looking for?

We would love to add a dog to our household, but are not sure which breeds to be looking at.
We are happy to wait for the right dog, and would prefer to rehome, so are aware it could be a year or more.
We have a newly turned 4 year old,l who will be starting school this September, live in a rural town. Husband works long hours FT. I work a few hours, but someone is always home except school holidays where there is 2 hours twice a week with everyone out and about. We only ever take UK holidays and would take the dog with us. I have a friend who runs a dog minding business (don't know how else to describe it! She babysits 2-3 dogs (alongside her own) in her house) so should we need care its available with someone I know and trust.
We spend LOTS of time outdoors, and have a good size enclosed garden.
My daughter is nervous of bouncy dogs, I'm allergic to most breeds- but am fine with terriers and poodles. (I'd love an Irish coat wheaten terrier, but ime they love to love, so im not sure it would work for dd.)

In short, we have the space, time and money for a dog, but I fear I may be chasing rainbows finding one. Any advice would be great fully recieved.

A poodle 🐩

You might have difficulties adopting a rescue with a 4-year-old though

We have 2 gorgeous Lurchers.. Ds 6 would tell you he loves them both the same. And he shares bedtime stories with them every night...
A very underestimated family pet.. I am allergic but fine with them. Ds has asthma but is OK too!
