Dogs stitches weeping

Cocolapew · 15/05/2021 20:42

My DDog had a small cyst removed on Thursday on her back. There's 2 stitches in it and tonight its started to seep a bit of watery blood.
She bright and active and eating ok.
Any advice? I don't want to rush her off to the vets too quickly if it's normal, she was very traumatised on Thursday (she had a large growth removed off her stomach).
Thank you.

Bathe it with salt water, but keep it as dry as possible.
Watch out for her nibbling it.

What would you do if they were your stitches? Or a child’s?
You should phone the vet.

Cocolapew · 15/05/2021 20:46

Thanks, she can't reach where it is so that's a plus.
DD just messaged a friend in the US who's sister is a vet and she said to apply a hot compress a couple of times a day.
They're such a worry!

They are. How’s he doing now?

Cocolapew · 16/05/2021 10:20

Much better thanks for asking Smile, hardly any during the night. She has either banged them, she likes to lie tight against things or they've stretched because of where they are.

Sorry, she!
Glad she’s doing better. Fingers crossed for a speedy recovery

My lurcher’s stitches started weeping a couple of days after she was spayed. Apparently some dogs have an allergic reaction and reject them. The vet advised to bathe with warm salt water, she was fine.

Cocolapew · 16/05/2021 22:33

Thanks it looks a bit red now so I'll phone the dr in the morning

I've got antibiotics and some arnica for her, the vet wasn't worried by it, he said it's not usual for back ones to get infected because the blood etc pools around it inside of draining away.
Thanks for the replies Smile

Let us know how she gets on - I’m glad you went to the vets though.

FlemishHorse · 17/05/2021 18:09

Ahh, best wishes for quick recovery. They’re such a worry when something’s not right.

Cocolapew · 17/05/2021 18:57

Meant it's not unusual not usual Blush.
I couldn't leave it, my nerves are shattered Grin.
She's wandering around enjoying being even more spoiled than usual.
