Pup changing sleep pattern for the worse

Hi all,

I have an 11 week old puppy. She was going from 8pm until 6am. I took her out for a wee at about ten and she went straight back to sleep. For the past two nights she's been wanting to play after her 10pm wee and barking if I put her back in the crate. Last night she finally went to sleep at about half eleven. Tonight she's awake and currently barking at the window.

I need her to sleep downstairs which she has been doing very happily up to now. Do I need to perhaps come back down and sleep near her again as I was doing in the first week she was here? I've been back upstairs for two weeks now with no issues.

I say wanting to play but she's obviously tired because she's barking and agitated, not relaxed and happy as she is in the day.

My 12 week old doesn't go in her crate until we go up to bed about 10.30 and she then sleeps until 6.30ish. In the evening she likes to play or chill out/sleep by us in the front room.

Perhaps your pup could play at 8 and go to bed later?

She's really really tired at 8 so I'm not sure keeping her up then would help. She doesn't make the best behaviour choices when she's tired 😂 She did sleep through when I eventually got her to go to bed so I guess it could be a lot worse.

Are you waking her to go out for a wee? If do, try not doing so. My 11 week old goes to sleep between 8 and 9 and goes through to 5sm.

I am @motorina - thanks I'll give that a go. 👍

Worth a try. Might be a total disaster, might not. With puppies, who knows?

mynameisnotmichaelcaine · 10/05/2021 20:47

Exactly. Definitely worth a try. She's still awake now, watching The Office with us so not crazily early.

@motorina - thanks so much for the suggestion - she was asleep just after 9 and awake at 6. I'll just leave her from now on. 👍

Woohoo! Victory!!

My litttle dickhead, on the other hand, woke at 1, 4, and 6. Inspite of days of sleeping through. Aaargh!

Oh no! Hope you get a more settled night tonight!

I find mine (15 months old) will wake early if she's colder than usual, so when I wash her blankets, I have to make sure she has a decent thick one not just an 'emergency' one while the usual one dries. I have found these light early mornings mean she wakes earlier now though....
