Best first holiday with a rescue dog?

Can anyone recommend a great place to do a first holiday with a rescue dog? Only me and the dog and priority being a nice secure garden. I’ve been looking at Airbnb and dog friendly cottages but can’t seem to work out how to make it prioritise what I want- ideally a hermit hut in 20 acres, secure with no livestock...!! I Also, mine doesn’t have separation anxiety and is happy to be left at home but I’m not sure I’d be happy to do that somewhere else? Can you reassure me? Or just tell me not to so I won’t bother looking at nearby pubs that aren’t dog friendly Smile
Thanks loads

Sorry, forgot to end with asking for any other tips that I might not know!

How long will you have had him before you go on holiday?

Are you in the UK?

Just over 2 years Grin and yes, uk please- she’s happy/sleeps in the car so distance isn’t a big deal.

Many holiday cottages do not allow you to leave your dog alone in the house so choose very carefully if you think you might need to.

Best holiday we ever had with a dog was on a boat on the Norfolk Broads!

I get better Airbnb results if I google airbnb enclosed garden than if I try and search directly on the Airbnb website, e.g.:
www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/41688268?source_impression_id=p3_1620339073_0D0PRZwH2xbb%2FQhY&guests=1&adults=1

There’s some nice places on here: www.holidaycottages.co.uk/cottages?getSearch=true&Dogs=1&Duration=7&PartySize=0&daysf=1&SortBy=Relevance&rpp=12&page=1&PropertyFacilities=Enclosed+garden+%2F+patio%3B556%3B1&viewmap=false

Personally, I wouldn’t risk leaving a dog unless they were crate trained. I would contact the host directly to check how secure the garden is and would have my dog on a longline in the garden at first, just in case. The proximity of livestock may depend on the time of year you go. I would ask the host about that as well if it’s a concern.

Before going on holiday, I would ensure that my dog's chip and tag details were up-to-date and had my mobile phone number on them. I might get a temporary tag with the holiday home address on it.

Most holiday cottages won't allow you to leave your dog unattended.

We’re renting a cottage in Wales shortly with our rescue. Won’t be leaving her unattended but we’ve chosen an area with lots of dog friendly places nearby, garden is enclosed. When we were looking where to go Devon was also a very dog friendly place in terms of tourist things to do and places to eat and drink so we might try that next!

This place looks amazing- I've been wanting to take my dog for a few years but still not been!

Hope you have a great time wherever you end up!

Our dog wasn't thrilled about being on holiday with us, only grazed her food and cried at night so had to sleep with someone Confused

There's a UK facebook page called Dog Friendly Holiday Accommodation. Accommodation owners post adverts with a focus on dog friendly facilities. You can also post what you are looking for- including dates/areas/facilities/nearby dog friendly pub/budget etc and accommodation owners respond with what they have available that might be suitable. I've seen some great places on there- including some with access to private secure fields etc.

Appreciate that prices have gone utterly bonkers - but camper van might be your way ahead? Apart from anything else, a nice snuggly dog to cuddle in the night is a good way to keep warm when British weather does its usual thing during the summer holidays... Smile
