How big a mistake is this by the vet

2 weeks ago the vet didn’t check properly what meds my dog is already on and prescribed something that would have reacted badly - fortunately I found out before giving any of the tablets. Got an apology and a refund.

Went to replace one of the long-term meds this week and got given 100mg capsules not 50mg tablets.

Vet just shrugged and said he’d “raise it with the staff.”

We’ll be moving on to a new practice but is this something I should maybe report to the professional body? Mistakes can happen, fair enough, but this seems very slapdash.

I'm not somebody who thinks of reporting things at the drop of a hat but this is appalling, and yes, in your shoes, I would report it.

They sound pretty incompetent and don't seem to care very much about it.

Can you make an official complaint to the practice manager?

Explain to practice manager the situation and ask what systems have been put in place for dispensing checks.
If he is the practice manager (or clinical director), find out if it's an independent or part of a corporate chain and if the latter, ask if the corporate has a policy regarding dispensing checks to roust them up a bit.
