To be fair, Beagles are known for being excellent with children and I've never met one that isn't.
Our beagle is three and even though he doesn't live with children or see them often, whenever he's around them, he's automatically very calm and chilled and he'll sit on my niece's lap for hours being fussed 
But, saying that, they're not a dog for people who work full-time and you really do need to be able to dedicate a lot of time to exercise and training. They thrive on company too.
