I think my dog is a human

Disclaimer-I am fully aware that my dog is an animal and I think I do a pretty good job of understanding his behaviour/body language and making sure his needs are met. I find it sad when people talk about “fur babies” and treat dogs like children at a detriment to their welfare needs.

That said, as a family we imagine our dog as a human with a personality and a voice (Scottish accent due to his breed). It started as a joke but we constantly speak in his voice/narrate what he would be saying about situations. As he’s a rescue, we joke that he’s a middle aged bloke who’s wife finally left him after putting up with his lazy behaviour/poor hygiene/fact that he’s only interested in ball games. So he came to live as a bit of a weird lodger with us. The back story is pretty detailed and I think we’ve captured his personality/who he would be as a human pretty well to the point where I almost have to remind myself that the little wolf like animal living in my house actually doesn’t speak/have any of the opinions we assign to him.

Anyone else do this or are we completely insane/been in lockdown far too long (although we did this with last dog too-Hungarian rescue with a voice like the car insurance meerkat).

Our rescue lurcher is a princess

Life is very tough for her

People have been very unfair

Expectations have not been met

She lets us know in a subtle manner when we have let her down. She’s a princess with a lifetime of suffering behind her. If only people would occasionally ask her how she is...

She’s the princess on the pea, and beddies are never soft enough

She’s MM’s twin soul Shock

Normal. We do voices for our two. One is exceedingly posh and proper and the other is an uncouth Mexican.

I now feel I'm lacking in life as I don't do this with Fiend Dog but love reading all your nutty stories Grin

Our cat speaks with a SE English accent and is a hard Brexiteer, though she doesn't talk about that much anymore. We're Irish, she's Irish, we live in Ireland. Sometimes we point this out to her but she doesn't acknowledge it.

One day she was complaining to DH that I hadn't given her any wet food and I turned round to him and said 'Don't listen to that cat! She's had plenty!'. DH was in hysterics and it still took me a couple of seconds to click.

@WankmasterBastardDeLaShithead

Our cat is a rescue from Bulgaria, and speaks with an Eastern European agent. We're pretty sure he's actually a Soviet spy.
Mine was born to a stray who fetched up at the warehouse where a friend's daughter worked - the stray gave birth to her kittens behind several hundred tonnes of King Edwards. He therefore has a rural Polish accent (and I did have to learn a few words from my friend to get his attention at first).

The older fluffy one has a voice like a female Jeremy Irons when playing Scar. Especially when she watches him faceplant into the window and promptly fall off the sill. 'I'm surrounded by idiots'.
