Joint supplements for my Labrador

weleasewoderick23 · 22/04/2021 20:20

My old boy ( he's 9) is struggling a bit now on walks and is a bit stiff in the morning too.

Can anyone recommend a good joint supplement? I've just looked on Amazon and the choice is so big it's mind boggling!

YuMove prescription

Most vets can give you a free 2 month trial.

Life changing for my arthritic cat!

RandomMess · 22/04/2021 20:24

You can buy non-prescription ones from them direct.

Okbutnotgreat · 22/04/2021 20:29

Recommend Yumove extra strength, know several elderly dogs it’s doing wonders for. Also vet prescribed pain relief can make a huge difference to the animals quality of life if they’re very arthritic.

ivfbabymomma1 · 22/04/2021 20:32

Dorwest are really good

Chunkymenrock · 22/04/2021 20:35

Have you been to the vets regarding this? So many people think they're just 'a bit stiff and getting old' but their mobility is affected in this way by pain. That's vital to have assessed, along with vet recommended treatment and then joint supplements thereafter.

CMOTDibbler · 22/04/2021 20:35

Yumove Senior. Its really helped ddog1 as he started getting a bit stiff in one shoulder.

Great advice Smile

YuMove is amazing, makes a massive difference to my dog. He can have problems with his elbow, vet has examined him and said put him on a supplement.
He no longer limps the next after a hard days exercise/lots of walking.
I get it on subscription so it’s cheaper.

WisestIsShe · 22/04/2021 20:45

Another vote for YuMove. It was recommended by the surgeon after Ddog had surgery for a torn cruciate.

weleasewoderick23 · 22/04/2021 21:03

Thanks for your replies everyone.

Yes, he's been to the vet and been checked, but the vet said he was ok just getting old. He mentioned joint supplements but nothing specific, hence me asking on here.

Thanks again for the recommendations, it looks like I'll go with the umove

My lab is on a joint food, I'm not in the UK so won't mention a brand as it won't apply to you. It's a joint health formula and has made a huge difference to his mobility.

DeadCertain · 24/04/2021 19:11

Another YuMove recommendation, it has made a difference to my large almost - 9 year old dog. Hope it does for yours too.

Happytentoes · 24/04/2021 19:58

Yep, Yumove has changed my 10 year old lab’s life. That and trimming a kilo of lockdown weight off .
He is so much happier on walks.

BiteyShark · 24/04/2021 20:01

Are there any potential downsides to using these supplements?

My 4.5 year old has back problems due to injuries and he does seem stiff (under vet so have that part covered) but keep looking at things like yumove and can't decide whether to try it or not.

SkeletonSkins · 24/04/2021 20:03

@BiteyShark I remember you from the puppy survival threads! My 4.5 year old has yumove young and active preventatively as he does agility. No draw backs and I really rate it.

Kazplus2 · 24/04/2021 20:05

Yumove for my 8 year old lab. Been using it for years now.

Honeyroar · 24/04/2021 20:08

My elderly labs were on Yumove once they were 8 (vet suggested). I also changed them to a quality senior feed. They were both prescribed metacam for the last year or two of their lives as well.

Where does the time go? Seems like only yesterday Grin.

I did notice they had different ones for different ages so maybe I should just buy a box and see if it makes any difference to him.

Darklane · 25/04/2021 21:15

Try the vet.
My little Yorkie has arthritis & supplements didn’t really help. The vet gave her a course of injections, one a month for six months & now just a top up of one whenever she’s getting stiff again, about once every six months. It’s made a huge difference.

MuchTooTired · 25/04/2021 21:21

GWF Jointaid for dogs was absolutely amazing for my old girl. She went from struggling to stand and barely walking to bounding around like a puppy. It gave her an extra couple of years until she let me know it was time 😢

MirandaMarple · 25/04/2021 21:24

Yumove and Synoquin has worked well for my old boy but what I cannot recommend enough is tumeric paste. I make my own in coffee bean moulds (cheap to buy in eBay)

Loads of recipes online, it's just tumeric powder, coconut oil, black pepper and water. Organic ingredients even better. Freeze into moulds and dispense frozen based on weight of dog. Google to find out more.
