Are hormonal surges a thing??

Just wondering about my young dog (he will be 2yo in June) and he's not neutered. Around every 6 weeks he becomes much grumpier and more reactive towards other (mostly male) dogs.
It lasts about a week to ten days and then he's fine again.

My dd and I call it his time of the month 😬

I've held of neutering him as it generally seems to not be recommended on here. However if this is a hormone related issue should it settle as he gets older or would neutering help?

TIA.

Well it depends! (hate that answer)

No I do not think your dog is having a regular ccle of hormonal surges.

However he could be in situations that he finds stressful and then he bubbles over at some situations that usually he could deal with.

So from what you say I do not think neutering would help.

Is he giving off subtle body language that is hard for you to read and then has to start upping the anti? I think of it as whispering and then we dont notice so he has to shout and yell at us to notice he is not comfortable with a situation.

I would get a vet check to rule out pain as that can cause issues,

In the meantime give him a break from having to interact with dogs and let him chill out.

So the hormones in question would not be the sex hormones eg testosterone but cortisol, adrenalin and dopermine for example which can be affected by environment and mood.
