Do decent breeders advertise on Pets4Home?

I have been researching getting a pup for years but it’s never been the right time. But now DH and I are WFH for good, our child is a bit older and we have a decent space / garden etc I’ve been putting more in to it

We have found a few decent looking breeders who are KC registered and on champdogs (which I think is a good site?). It seems all the decent breeders have really shonky looking sites and btinternet email addresses so having to look a bit beyond that to see what heritage of their dogs is / health scores / eyes / hips / elbows etc etc.

But a few of them also advertise on Pets4Home with the advert saying “KC registered....”. Which then got me down a bit of a hole and I have seen plenty of KC registered parent litters on Pets4Home.

I always thought that site was pretty synonymous with puppy farming and that a decent breeder would have huge waiting lists but it seems some KC registered pups are available on there.

What’s the view here? Can you get decent breeders on there or best to steer clear?

I just looked at it and don’t think any of the breeders I saw can be ethical inflating the prices as high as they have! When there is a growing problem with dog theft as a direct result. It made me unreasonably angry so I should probably go to bed Grin

I think the problem with that website is that you get a lot of unscrupulous sellers/breeders and scammers and although there are genuine breeders on there, it’s going to be difficult to differentiate between them. You really do need to research thoroughly your preferred breed. Some puppies look very similar as pups and can be sold off as sold as a expensive breed. Many on there are bred badly with serious health issues. I think most important is health and temperament. Ask if the breeder health tests. Ask friends, people locally you see where they got their dogs from. If they have had health problems. Generally good breeders have a waiting list and you may have to wait at least a year.

If you decide to go for a breed, rather than a crossbreed, ring the breed clubs. There’s always at least one, some breeds have more than one. You can get advice from them. They may be able to put you onto members who are expecting litters or know of someone on the breed grapevine. It’s a good starting point. All the contact numbers of the secretaries are on the KC website.

Just been scammed by Atlanta Wilshire on pets4homes.it turns out fully up to date with vaccinations means compleatly unvaccinated in pets4homes speak. And neither breeder or site gives a damn, it “buyer beware” from both and go away. Do not use them unless you want to be scammed.
