Slightly delicate question...if you are in a relationship and have a dog who sleeps in your room

Do you have an issue when you are intimate with your partner. Our dog acts like the sex police....as soon as there's the slightest hint of even a cuddle she expects to be in the middle of it.

We've tried when she's asleep and found a puppy leaping on to the bed - it spoils the moment somewhat.

I'm afraid mine is much more compliant! He used to be evicted from the room (mainly for fear of someone kicking him...) but he's now learned to take to his bed where he can't see what's happening!

Yup - evicted dogs - cue barking, whining and scratching at the door.

Consulted a trainer - had to train them out of it, by constantly closing them into a single room (rather than free run of the house) - initially only for a few mins at a time before going back in and out (AND IGNORING THEM!), but this time leaving the door open on the way out. The whole idea being to get them used to the idea that a closed door wasn't a bad thing.

Eventually they stopped concerning themselves as much with what we were up to.

No advice I'm afraid- at the first shuffle of the duvet, ours takes herself to the farthest corner of the room and practically puts her paws over her eyes

Ours seems to have a sixth sense that something is up (fnar fnar). She'll sometimes just take herself off to hide in a corner of the room - but not for long.

She really doesn't like being left out.

The shut door not being a bad thing sounds worth a try - useful for other things too.

Ours doesn't sleep in our room, but when we cuddle/kiss she runs away - we think she thinks we are vying for chief-of-pack supremacy!
A previous dog always wanted to be involved with any cuddles, platonic or romantic. They're all different.
The only way to get rid of the issue is for your dog not to sleep in your room, sorry...

This is why I'll never let a dog share the bedroom. We had to let her in on holiday once as she wouldn't settle, and she came and sat staring at us from the side of the bed.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 14/04/2021 16:56

Ours just sleeps on the floor when that happens.

StillMedusa · 14/04/2021 22:14

Ours is usually fast asleep on the floor and doesn't budge... but there was this one occasion when she was a puppy when DH got a sudden licky surprise from behind.... Blush Kept the duvet over after that!!!!

Same here. I did have a cat though that would climb over and sit in the middle- he was even known to try and curl up on dh’s back mid activity Blush. A happy purring kitty trying to cuddle up to both of you is very off putting!

ChickyNuggies · 14/04/2021 22:21

Urgh I don't know but we shut ours out in the hall and kitchen when it's time but every time, without fail, one if them pees in the floor, even if they've just been out.

jacqelinedaniels · 17/04/2021 20:28

Ours sleeps on our floor and the first time we dtd with her in the room (rescue) she barked loads! Really freaked us out 😂
next time we gave her a Kong and since then she’s ignored everything so I guess she worked out nothing scary was going on. Glad she doesn’t try to jump on the bed 😂 Good luck hope it settles soon!

TooManyAnimals94 · 18/04/2021 08:28

Ours is the same so she goes in her crate. Usually we have sex at night so she's used to being in there anyway. She used to be worse as a puppy but now if we have a spontaneous moment she won't be licking our toes thank god 😂 she just sits on the corner of the bed or sofa looking disapproving. So she has grown out of whining and trying to get involved.

Norabuzz · 18/04/2021 08:46

This is why our dog sleeps outside our room (with our bedroom door closed).

Sparkletastic · 18/04/2021 08:56

Ours has a habit of jumping on the bed at the 'denouement' and fixing me with a concerned gaze Blush

SpiceRat · 18/04/2021 09:05

Yeah we struggle with this. Our dog had MAJOR separation anxiety issues when he arrived so him not sleeping in our room wasn’t a possibility and still isn’t (apart from a few weeks last summer when he took himself off downstairs to lay on the wooden floor as it was cooler).
I agree with the shut door thing it helps a lot. As well as urm, mimicking the noises ... if the noises get dog riled up that is. A treat works wonders too for distraction. A stuffed kong or something they can be unattended with that will last the duration. It’s more of a planned event now, but it’s funny to us now.
