Dog very scared of the vet

Just dropped little dog at vet for checkup and vaccinations. He knew right away where he was going and was almost hysterical waiting outside (covid rules). I feel awful and my family gets after me for stressing him.

I am pretty sure he is going to need dental work.

It is better to get this stuff done, right? Poor little guy was shaking. I wish I could have stayed with him.

It is any vet, not this particular one.

I guess it was just me worrying. Dog survived, had his vaccinations, and was given a clean bill of health. Very happy to see me when I picked him up.

Poor baby has to go back for a booster for his leptospirosis vaccine in three weeks but it seems likely he'll survive!

Glad he was ok Thanks

We are the same here. Terrified as he has had so many admissions and investigations he just shakes and whimpers when waiting and had to be dragged in when covid ruled meant we couldn't join him.

Thank you BiteyShark. He is getting on so I wanted him checked over. I hope your sweet dog is OK.

We have bad Covid numbers here still in BC so no going in with him.

Poor fella. I sympathise with him and you. Our dog developed an aversion to the vet clinic after an anal abscess and the resultant attention being paid to his bottom - can't say I blame him! This was pre Covid though, and the clinic encouraged us to take him in for just pats, cuddles and treats, which we did and he now loves the clinic again. I've just seen you're in BC though and can't go in with him (out of interest, I Googled your covid numbers, scary! esp as we're in NZ), are you able to defer the dental work for a while?

Yes, thankfully. He has tartar but it is not urgent. 6 months to a year. The vet did not think he needed an extraction but can't be sure without the cleaning. She said he was in great shape for his age!

Thank you for your response, I appreciate it. I think this stemmed from a broken leg and multiple anesthetics and a cast for months.
