How to play with young puppy

Our 8 week old lab has come to live with us last Friday - so far it’s gone well. We have a snake toy to play with when he gets bitey which is good and works fairly well.

I was just wondering if anyone has toys /games their puppies enjoyed? I don’t know how to engage him, or if he’s just little still and my expectations are too high 🤣🤦‍♀️

Hello I have 2 GR’s aged 10 & 4 months. We have a big basket of toys that can be carried from room to room. Kongs are good filled with kibble or peanut butter ( special dog type from pet shop) coffee wood chews and split antlers for chewing on. I’ve bought a half apron (like hairdressers have) so that I also have treats/toy etc to hand to readily distract from biting - when I tap my apron and say ooh what’s mummy got they stop immediately and focus on me. I also wet a clean t towel and freeze it - little one loves that for his teeth -also frozen carrots! For the older one we now play find the biscuits (he waits while I hide them) and that seems to keep him occupied for quite a while! Hope that helps 😁

Mine loved a flirt pole - and it has the advantage of focussing the mouth on something very external to you Grin

Just don't use it to encourage too much boisterous twisting, running, start/stops.

Thanks - I have a puppy kong - but wasn’t sure exactly what to put in it! Do you just put the kibble in as it is, or soak it and mush it up first?

With the carrots - do you just freeze whole big ones and give them those?

Sorry so many questions right now 🤦‍♀️

I just put the kibble in as it is - Yes big ones - usually cut ends off the carrots first before freezing. Also soak rope toys in water then freeze. Don’t overplay - they needs loads of sleep!

Thanks so much - trying not to as he gets like a bitey out of control maniac when too tired. Need to work on getting him to settle before that point... we’ve been trying to write down times of eating/sleeping etc to see if we can work out a sort of schedule. Then work out how to calm him....
