Where do you find a terrier puppy

We are looking for a terrier type puppy in the near future, where is best to look? We are not bothered by it being a pedigree, we currently have a JRT and would love something similar. I live in the Channel Islands but there are none suitable in rescue where we live. If gumtree and the like always dangerous? Thanks

Finding a puppy right now is an absolute minefield. Responsible breeders haven't bred during the pandemic, and all the puppy farmers and puppy smugglers have rubbed their greedy mitts with glee and are cashing in left right and centre. I would wait 6 months, let the pandemic lockdown madness subside and people start to return to more normal routines.

Yes freelistings are full of scams and badly bred dogs, avoid. Some people have got lucky, but many many more have not.

Don't rule out rescue if that's an option for you. The dogs available will change every day and the number signed over will increase when people need to return to traveling to work etc. Puppies are always in demand and may not be advertised online.

Totally agree. Best to avoid any online ad sites like gumtree.

We got our collie cross a couple of years ago from a local farmer who advertised on pets4homes I think it was. He was planning on keeping 2 of the pups to work on the farm. I saw mum and dad (both working dogs on the farm) and had a cup of tea with the farmer and his wife while we chatted about the parent dogs and the dad snoozed on my knee. I'd never do that again, we were really lucky that our boy is an absolute joy but could so easily have been a disaster and I've heard some horror stories. We were thinking of getting a new puppy but have put that off for a year at least now.

We contacted a breeder who, very rarely, has PRTs and Whippets that don’t make breed standard and therefore won’t be shown or used for breeding. After 2 months of communication and checks (of us!) we were deemed suitable to rehome a 15 month PRT. We were super lucky. He’s a lovely boy so far and, if any issues had arisen, breeder was happy to take him back. We’re in regular contact and they will be grooming him for us when the need arises. I didn’t want to line the pocket of some backyard breeder and, after experiencing a puppy farm first hand, wanted to avoid that too. We persevered and kept in regular contact so that they saw we were serious.

I would completely avoid online shopping for a pup.
That leaves waiting for rescue (look further afield?)
Or pedigree. Approach breed club.
