Greyhound/hound owners - can I ask some advice?

We have our new beautiful boy home from Dog's Trust. He's 4 and in good health.

I have a few questions and the net seems full of contradictory opinions!

  1. He came with a martingale collar (wide) and harness. Should he wear this collar all the time, or just a house collar? (Haven't bought yet) Do you put the martingale on for each walk and attach lead to it, or attach lead to the harness?!
  1. He has sloppy poos. I know this is probably nerves, but we're wondering about his diet. He's on Wainwright's complete dry food. Is the packaged raw food much better for them? Is there a better quality mid to high price fry food which is better and may result in less mousse like poos?!
  1. Do we leave terry brushing for a while as it may be too much stress? He's been here only a couple of days.

He's seemingly settling well, is toilet trained, seems calm and relaxed and loves his duvet beds! I think his foster carers did a great job....

Any advice gratefully received.

Sweet potato or butternut squash may help with tummy, I pop one or other in micro til soft then scoop out flesh and feed a couple of tablespoons with each feed as my lurcher has a sensitive tummy every now and again. Natures menu also do freeflow frozen mince about £5 a bag, way cheaper than buying the trays and can be supplemented with veg, sardines, raw eggs etc. Also scrambled egg is a great binder and gentle on poorly tummy but it won't improve the gas 😂

Hi@gerbo. I am going to try the Nature's Menu freeflow frozen mince on my next order as it does work out cheaper than the individual packs which I normally use. My boy will often have the white of my egg when I poach one too. I appreciate that all dogs are different but fortunately he rarely suffers from gas if I stick to the chicken.

Our lurcher has had lots of tummy problems and now diagnosed with colitis - we are now on Royal Canin Hypoallergenic kibble which seems to be helping.

My lurcher has a bit of a delicate tummy probably from eating dead seabirds she finds on the beach. My vet recommended Chappie, the 'original' non-chicken variety, just as a temporary thing. It settled her tummy right down. Apparently it's not great long term, as not that much nutrition, but it's good for calming the tummy.

Top advice, thanks everyone.

I'm sticking with the wainwright's kibble for a little longer until he's properly settled, maybe a few more weeks, then we'll try Natural Instinct.

His poos are a bit better, and it seems from the packet I've been over feeding him (following rescues advice) so I'll try giving a smidge less and see if that helps his tummy calm too.
