Having used other stuff on dogs in emergencies... dog shampoo does seem to be milder on their skin and fur than anything else, but I just buy any cheap one - usually from a supermarket or b&m or somewhere.

They do last ages though because you’re not washing them that often.

We have a generic bottle of Pets at Home shampoo for emergencies (stinky river bed or rolled in fox poo), but we only use it if really needed and the affected area (not a full wash).

It really is best not to shampoo as it can cause allergies, skin issues and destroy the waterproof quality of the coat. Brushing regularly is all that's needed.

We have a hound and she doesn't smell and no ones ever commented on her (other than having shiny fur).

Whatever I can find in Poundland.

We don't wash them all that often, and I try not to wash them in the winter as it does destroy the oils in their coats.

Thanks - interesting for different reasons than i asked. I’ve been having to hose mine down practically every day (sometimes twice) through the winter as she gets covered in mud snd have bern shampoo washing her more. Will read up on it. Thanks

I have been hosing my springer spaniel every day for months. But I rarely use shampoo. If I have to I use Johnson's (not the baby powder lot) tea tree shampoo. Tomato purée gets rid of fox poo smells btw, but you will need to shampoo the area afterwards.

We use Animology puppy shampoo. But I only use shampoo every 6-8 weeks, otherwise it's just warm water. Too much soap/shampoo is bad for their skin.

One bottle has latsted years, was £3 or so from the supermarket

I use wildwash but only when she's rolled in something grim or has so much mud in her coat I really have to. Wildwash is really gentle and doesn't smell strong unlike some others which irritated her skin.
