Elevated food bowls

My dog does not seem quite right, noticed today quite reluctant to go downstairs, not quite as energetic during this mornings walk.

There is a forest part of the park, which she gets very excited about, was still very interested in that, but the rest of the walk, quite slow to normal.

When we got back, I refilled the water bowl as normal, but she didn't want to drink, just looking at the bowl, so I held it up for her and she did then have a good drink.

I think she has pain in her neck.
Was thinking about getting elevated bowls, does anyone have these and are your dogs more comfortable with them?

What sort of dog is she? Some do recommend for medium/large breeds that they have elevated bowls to help with digestion

I have these but I have large breeds and small breeds so do have both, all dogs use both. Typically.

Dh made our big sighthound one... She had to spread her feet like a giraffe otherwise!!

Here it is... Painted it grey to match our kitchen!

We have raised bowls. They are in a plastic kind of stand. They were for our lab but current dog used them.
They are really good. Means dog doesn't have to stoop down to eat plus seems to be less messy.
Ours are similar to this one

LOL
I’m sorry but I have a hard time believing she’s a collie cross.
The only thing vaguely collie like is her colouring!

She needs to see a vet.
She’s behaving differently and you think she may have pain in her neck.

Also, research now has changed.
Previously it was recommended large breeds had elevated bowls to prevent bloat but the advice now is to feed on the floor as elevated bowls may actually increase the risk of bloat.

What BigWolfLittleWolf said.

I’m writing this post whilst sitting on the floor of the vets, trying to bribe my boy to try eating. He’s on day 5 post surgery for GDV (bloat), and it’s the most horrific thing that we’ve been through with any of our dogs. I’ve spent this time reading a lot about the causes, and one major thing that’s come up, and confirmed by our vets, is not to use raised bowls.

That's really interesting! I had no idea. We bought them esp due to bloat. Hope your dog is ok!

@Girlintheframe it can apparently enable them to eat and drink quicker, which is one of the main causes.

My boy is recovering thanks. It’s going to take a while as he’s 13, but he’s still with us and fighting
