Next doors dogs just attacked someone

Thatsmycupoftea · 20/03/2021 20:31

Hi all

I have posted about next doors dogs twice on this page.

Firstly because they were constantly barking aggressively and it was upsetting my ddog and second time because they were literally lunging at the fence when any of us were out in our garden minding our own business. Scaring my dc trying their hardest to get through the fence.

I reported them to the police as dangerous dogs because I'm terrified if the do somehow manage to get through they will kill my dc or ddog.

They are hugh bully type breed. Possibly mastiff.

Police did nothing but I spoke to the neighbor in tears one day as my dc were frozen still in my garden as the dogs were aggressively lunging at them. Since then they have somewhat managed them better but its not great still and I'm on edge. Dh thinks I'm being over sensitive.

Well I heard shouting and screaming outside and on looking out saw them attacking a passer by. They had escaped their home. They were literally mauling him. It was awful. Owners managed to get them off while the man ran to a car.

Nothing will be done. Its so worrying living next door to dogs that have the potential to escape and kill my ddog or children. Its an accident waiting to happen.

I love animals. I hate the owners. I wish I had never moved here.

They are neglected dangerous dogs.

Dog on human attack will make the police act. Has the attack been reported?

Thatsmycupoftea · 20/03/2021 20:58

I didn't go out at the time and watched the neighbors apologize to the man and then he drove away so no idea if he will report it but he did say he's going to hospital.

The owner told him they are not normally like that for goodness sake.

I think you can report it if you witnessed this - and I say this as a dog lover, but that’s really not on, imagine if it’s a child who can’t fight back next time

murbblurb · 20/03/2021 21:03

You have talk to the police. A dangerous dog is defined as one that makes you feel threatened. They will attack again and could kill. With luck it will be the owners but it may not be. You and your children are in danger.

Had a lesser version of this, got told it is four strikes. With luck the dog has killed its owner because she refuses to do anything.

scaredsadandstuck · 20/03/2021 21:04

I would think you can report it anyway OP. Did you get the man's numberplate or anything? He might report it himself I guess. It sounds very scary, I'm not surprised you are upset and worried.

ContadoraExplorer · 20/03/2021 21:08

Report this. They attacked an adult this time but what if they get out again and go for a child, they could easily kill. Your neighbour really doesn't sound like he'll do anything about it.

Thatsmycupoftea · 20/03/2021 21:33

I have reported i. Fingers crossed something is done

You were a witness, so if the victim reports it, with luck your report will be linked to his.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 21/03/2021 08:37

The police have to act if someone reports a dog bite to a person.

I remember your previous posts and sadly I think this was an accident waiting to happen. Too many people have dogs they can't control Angry

Cleverpolly3 · 21/03/2021 08:40

You’ve done the right thing.
Do you ever see the dogs being exercised?

Thatsmycupoftea · 21/03/2021 09:05

No unfortunately they are not exercised. Never walked. Are locked most of the day in a dark room and they will bark and bark, which is not surprising is it. They don't even have access to a garden as their garden is a big mess and so are let out once or twice a day to stand on a small area of decking. Its awful to witness.

The police didn’t act the first time because no one had been injured.

While in theory a dog acting aggressively and making you think it may hurt you is an offence, in practice, the police don’t have the manpower and won’t usually do anything apart from possibly visit the owner and ask them to keep the dog under better control.

When a dog actually bites someone that’s a whole different ballgame.
Police do usually take that very seriously.

I suspect the reason the dogs aren’t walked is because the owner can’t control them and they will be lunging and aggressing at everyone.

If they react in similar fashion when the police arrive, and it sounds like they will, they sound extremely territorial from what you have written, it probably won’t end well for them, as in they will probably be put to sleep so I’d be very careful not to talk about it with anyone apart from the police.

You have to live next door to these people, you don’t want them suspecting you had something to do with the death of their dogs.

murbblurb · 21/03/2021 10:18

I never understand why people keep dogs if they aren't prepared to put in the work. These animals will be beyond help and need to be destroyed before they injure or kill. And your children are possible victims if the fence doesn't hold.

As someone notes, the dangerous dogs act is designed to prevent the injury you saw, but without enforcement it won't.

Seatime · 21/03/2021 10:26

Tell police and offer yourself as witness to the man who was attacked. Call animal charities locally and report neglect. Call council to report neglect. It will take you a morning's work but get on it today by email. What if your children were mawled? They may not survive a big dog attack. It has happened before.

Thatsmycupoftea · 21/03/2021 11:01

I have contacted the police and dog warden. Its such a terrible situation for the dogs and us as neighbors. I feel so upset and angry and also scared.
I have a goldie who is so gentle and she gets lots of walks, goes to work, does mental stimulating games and gets played with. While out in our garden playing with my Goldie I can hear them in their dark room barking and barking. Its distressing and makes me feel guilty that I'm enjoying that time with my dog while they suffer.

I'm also scared that it will begin to affect my dog. They are constantly having a go at the fence when they get let out and my dog is terrified. It has are her more cautious around other dogs which is so unfair as she's a loving happy thing.

She struggled to settle last night after the attack as she witnessed it from our front gate my dh ran to get her in we were so shocked and didn't know what was happening at first.

You've absolutely done the right thing.

People shouldn't have dogs if they can't look after them properly.

BlondehairRedlips · 21/03/2021 12:41

You have 100% done the right thing, I really hope this gets sorted and something is done about it Flowers

RandomMess · 21/03/2021 12:49

I hope the police prosecute. Was it a visitor of theirs do you think? The problem will be if the person won't admit it but I assume they have gone to A&E.

Speak to the dog warden separately about your fears for them getting through the fence and not being under control.

Thanks
