Insurance question

So a child left the stair gate open yesterday morning and I found our dog snaffling my breakfast in bed bowl of muesli. I wasn’t sure if she had consumed any raisins so took her straight to the vet. She had an emetic immediately and they couldn’t see any raisins or actually any muesli at all so she wasn’t kept in on fluids and no kidney function tests. My question is should I claim the £260 on insurance or does that then potentially leave me open to huge costs should something randomly go wrong with kidneys at a later date? Think I am probably over thinking this but have been stung by insurance with a previous pet. Thanks

Anything that is on the vet history will be considered if you claim in the future.

Do you have a life policy? If you do then if you keep that policy going then you would be covered.

If you have a yearly policy or change companies then you need to declare everything that you have visited your vet for irrespective of diagnosis or claims and in my experience they ask for a full vet history including previous visits/treatments etc.

It shouldn’t do. Although any future issue with kidneys would need to be fully investigated and the insurance company would need a lot of detail from your vet to determine they were not connected. Exactly this happened to me with Petplan. Incontinence was flagged when a couple of years later kidney disease was diagnosed. Once vets had provided all the info to clarify they were completely separate, Petplan paid out.

Yes we have a life policy Biteyshark.

That’s my hesitation Judas.

Though it took a while for them to go through the evidence, I trust Petplan to always pay out, but then I’ve used them for years. I’m not sure I’d be so comfortable with some other insurance companies.

It’s not whether you claim or not that means they could link it, just whether it goes in her medical records.

But if it’s a lifetime policy it shouldn’t matter anyway because you can claim for the same condition anyway.

With a life policy as long as you keep that policy going then even if they are deemed to be the same condition it doesn't matter because it is a life policy.

My dog has IBD but any stomach problems are covered because we have a life policy and keep with the same company each year. The only benefit I get from petplan is that any reoccurrence of the same condition in the same policy year means I only have to pay the excess once for that condition.
