Can anyone recommend a small soft dog crate that can be anchored by seatbelt?

Needs to fit in middle rear seat. Want a soft enclosed crate not a seat but I can’t find one that you can secure with a seatbelt?

Also really needs to have a door on the top of it so I can pick ddog up out of that...

I have a soft crate from pets at home with a top opening. It doesn't fit a seatbelt round very well but there are D-rings on it that I attached to short dog seatbelts to anchor it in place.

I used it before pup was old enough to just be clipped in by his harness, not sure it would withstand much of a crash though.

Timeformyparty · 14/03/2021 11:31

@PeckyOwl do you mean the things you can big that you plug into the seat belt clip that you then attach to dogs collar/harness? If so that’s a good idea although dc would be either side so I could only anchor it on one side....currently ddog is in one of those open square seat things that have a strap that goes round it and round the seat of the car but ddog climbs up on the sides and gets out and then gets stuck in the few seconds it takes me to get out my door when the car stops (she is an old rescue and no amount of training has changed this) so I want something enclosed but struggling to find one that doesn’t fit width ways across back seat but is vertical so the longest part is on the base of the seat of the car if that makes sense...

I’m kind of hoping it doesn’t exist tbh... because I can’t imagine a soft crate could hold a dog in an accident... it would just rip somewhere, surely and then there’s a loose dog being thrown about your car.

Timeformyparty · 14/03/2021 11:39

@tabulahrasais ddog is 5kg. I don’t allow her to sit loose on the back seat with just a clip in a seat belt buckle, I’m trying to restrain her safely. What else do you suggest? You can’t anchor a metal crate, she can’t go in the boot either

“I’m trying to restrain her safely.”

I know that... sorry, it wasn’t a criticism of you, just me thinking, ooft, that’s actually potentially really dangerous.

5kg? Have you tried looking at cat carriers?

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 14/03/2021 11:46

Would this work? You could use a seat belt attachment with your dogs harness too.

Yes it worries me. I don’t drive that much but have a trip coming up and I feel a contained thing would be better than what she currently has. Plus I need something to stop her trying to climb up on the sides each time I stop the car. Yeah the ones I am looking at are also cat carriers as she is small she can get away with them I just can’t find one I can use the seat belt to anchor it but I’m thinking maybe I could buy a separate strap and attach it all the way the actual seat of the car plus round the crate...

Timeformyparty - the seatbelt clips should never be used on a collar, but why don’t you want one on a harness? How old are your kids and do they get b on with the dog?

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 14/03/2021 11:47

Sorry I’ve only just seen you said enclosed.

Timeformyparty · 14/03/2021 11:48

No @GingerFoxInAT0phat that’s exactly the kind of thing she is in... I need something with a roof to stop her climbing up and over the sides and getting stuck despite being attached on the inside via her harness

Maelson are fab and have your needs covered - look at Inner Wolf website. Expensive though. We use ours as her crate! They come up big!

Timeformyparty · 14/03/2021 11:50

@Tamingofthehamster I haven’t ever said I attach it to a collar. I was making sure I was on the same wave length as the PP and checking we were talking about the same thing. Ddog has a harness

Timeformyparty · 14/03/2021 11:51

Thanks @tabulahrasa @LostArcher I will have a look at those

PeckyOwl · 14/03/2021 11:51

Yes, I used those seatbelt things that are designed to go into harnesses. Now he's older he has a proper car harness, it was just a short term fix to stop him wandering around and getting into trouble, it wouldn't have been any protection in a crash.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 14/03/2021 11:57

This one says it has seat belt loops.

Timeformyparty · 14/03/2021 12:07

Thanks @GingerFoxInAT0phat I came across that one but it doesn’t have a top opening which I need as I can’t get ddog out of a front opening one

ViperAtTheGatesOfDawn · 14/03/2021 12:29

I would look at airline approved large cat/small dog carriers with seatbelt loops, the top will be screwed to the base (the Catit cabrio linked above is a dreadful carrier and only connected by plastic clips).

Mol1628 · 14/03/2021 13:30

The catit cabrio linked above is great. You can just slip the seatbelt through the top handle.

moosemama · 14/03/2021 21:54

Have a look at Sleepypods. They’re expensive, but are the only ones I’ve found that have been crash tested.

This one is The Atom, but I can’t remember which one is ok for 5kg.
