@m0therofdragons

I’m really surprised at the comment about not having a wcs as your first dog... we have an 8 month old and he’s amazing. Yes he’s busy and clever but easy to train and sleeps through the night. We are a busy family as in 3 dc and a house of noise and excitement and our cocker has fitted in perfectly. I can’t see how another breed would be “easier”.
I can understand that comment. Yes they are lovely but with a high prey drive if you don't engage them they have a tendency to be off hunting especially in woods making recall hard. The teenage period, which you may not have got to yet, can be very challenging with recall.

At gundog training for pets, pulling on the lead and recall were the main issues faced by most of us there.

We have a working and show mix cocker. He's absolutely beautiful, I often just sit and stare at him 😍

He's in the teenage phase, so recall can be patchy. I agree with previous poster who said their dog can see past the reward-we can often see him weighing up on his mind whether he wants the treat, or to run after the birds. Birds and squirrels are his favourites, and he'll be off! He does check in with us, and never goes far, but his cast iron recall from his early training days seems to be missing at the moment!

He's affectionate and gentle, and often comes for a cuddle. Follows me about the house when I leave the room. Is great with our kids, loves running about with them.

We walk him for an hour a day and he's happy with that. Loves a ball, but won't drop the bloody thing for us to throw it. We're working on that! He likes to have something to carry in his mouth.

He barks when the doorbell rings, and not much apart from that. Gets excited about going out, but also has moments of pure calm. He's much calmer than we thought a cocker would be.

Like others, he's a bit of a kleptomaniac,and has cost us a few hundred pounds for visits to the vet when he's swallowed socks. He steals my slippers every day when I'm in the shower.
