Any farmers on here? Crop spraying question

So. I've moved to a new area - fabulous new dog walks to explore. In my old area I walked along the edge of a nature reserve and into a forest (but had to drive to them)

My new walk is only a few mins from hone along a public footpath and then bridleway. The footpath runs along the edge of an arable field - I think hay or silage (it looks grass like) I'm told by locals that they don't graze anything in those fields (they're not secure) Lovely big margin between the crops and path/fence so easy to keep the dogs off the crops.

My question is whether there are any crop treatments that I should be aware of re the dogs? They were spaying on Friday - a fine spray with no smell so not slurry - so I washed the dogs paws when we got home as I realised I had no idea what it might have been.

Probably being over cautious as the dogs weren't on the actual field - but just wondering what they would have been spraying this time of year? And is there any crop treatments that I should be wary of?

It could be a selective weedkiller.
Sprays are generally safe when they are dry but if the crop is wet from them its not safe.
I've got the appropriate crop spraying qualifications and but I only need to spray permanent pasture every couple of years. Most sprays are not good

we avoid fields where they have been spraying, also for whatever it is they spray before harvesting the potatoes the farmer will put a sign up

Most crops are sprayed with weedkillers that are animal friendly sprays. Just watch the rapeseed as that can cause allergic reactions. Also barley seeds getting in the dogs pads. My walks are right through the crops where I live.

From your description it sounds more like an arable field drilled with a cereal crop ie wheat, barley, oats or rye. It is probable that what was being sprayed was a liquid fertilizer to stimulate crop growth now that the soil is starting to warm. Despite the margin between the crop and the path ( possibly a stewardship margin) sprays do drift and it would be wise to not let your dog lick its paws or fur following your walk without bathing it first. Exercise caution, just in case!
