Best puppy food? (Not raw!)

Hopefully bringing a fur baby home soon :)

Breeder currently feeds Purina pro sensitive large breed (golden retriever) puppy food with abit of pedigree chum on top.

I’m looking for suggestions on what brand I should change her to if I decide to?

We've changed to Wolfworthy and so far so good but you need to calibrate the amounts carefully. She came with the Purina so we spent two weeks merging them and yesterday and today she's had all Wolfworthy. I may also incorporate some raw at some point too. I need to keep the kibble as we caravan.

We have been happy with fish4pets so far.

Beco for our guy with a sensitive stomach

Stick with the breeders food for the first couple of weeks till the pup is settled, then spend two weeks changing to your choice of food. There is no one perfect food for every dog, it needs to suit your dog and be easy for you to source.

We use Wainwrights Dry Food for Large Puppies (Hes a lab!) with a pouch of Morrisons own puppy food on top. He loves it! Smile

Our pup started on purina. After recommendations on here I moved her to Millie’s wolf heart and she hated it! Wouldn’t touch it. She’s on Lily’s kitchen now and loves it.

My 5 month old lab came on the same and I lived her onto Butchers puppy (wet food). My old dog was always fed Butchers and she had a beautiful coat, good teeth, very healthy. I've introduced Step Up kibble to bulk it out because it is getting expensive on just under 3 tins a day.

OP please visit allaboutdogfood website, this is an independent website which nutritionally rates dog food. From my extensive research into such matters I can tell you that the top rated foods are from either Orijen or Acana, these are sister companies providing the best dry dog food money can buy. My young dog is currently on acana as orijen is a bit rich for him, i have used this brand for years with my dogs and it really is brilliant. They do puppy food, and it really is worth trying, not cheap, but you need less of it. If you change food remember to mix old food with new gradually so not to upset your pup.

I think its a case of testing what your dog likes. Mine likes wolf of the wilderness but only one of the flavours. I tried wolfworthy he didn't like it. It also depends on what breed your dog is some are high protein. Mine are working breed. Purina is not a bad food in my opinion.

theconstantinoplegardener · 02/03/2021 14:15

The AllAboutDogFood website is quite useful in that it lists pretty much all UK dog foods in one place and includes ingredients etc. I'm not sure that the nutrition score it gives is worth much, though. The guy who runs it mentions his zoology degree, but doesn't appear to have any qualifications as a nutritionist.
