Every time we have a meal our Jack Russell is right there. We have a one-year-old who eats in a highchair and shes constantly I was under it while she eats and hoovers up every crumb. Would you crate her every time we eat? She has a crate that she usually only goes in if we go out but I’m starting to think it’s a good idea to put her in there when we eat and ignore her crying. I just don’t want her to start hating the crate as she’s always been fine in it.

I should have added that she is 11 months old

Could you just put her in a different room?

The other option is to train "place" - it will involve a lot of getting up and reinforcing where he's to go (his bed or crate on the other side of the room), but he should soon get the picture.

Personally I view hoovering up crumbs as being a great bonus point of having dogs Wink Is the floor cleaning actually causing a problem (eg if the dog was jumping up at the high chair) or is she just waiting for bits to drop?

You can always give the dog something to do while you're eating - a stuffed Kong is one of the go-to options

I’m worried she will hoover up something she shouldn’t have. She’s not picky at all. I might try a stuffed Kong. Thanks

My Spaniel is the same
He’s a rehome and is utterly food obsessed. My old Spaniel I had from a pup couldn’t have cared less about food.

This one spends his whole time jumping up at the table or staring close to your face.
