Post neutering normality?

Had my 3+ year old neutered last Wednesday.
Had a horrendous Wednesday/Thursday/Friday where he whined and howled and wouldn't sleep.
He started eating a small amount on Saturday and will sleep, but if I hadn't seen the scar on his Willy I would swear he'd been lobotomised.
He's still in a medical shirt. Is this quite normal behaviour?
I really didn't imagine it would be like this.

Have you been back for the post op check? They'll be able to confirm that it's healing as expected or not. Did he have a few days of pain relief post op too? All that howling isn't normal really in my experience. The op site isn't on the penis though, more like in front of the scrotum??

I'd get him checked. Mine were a bit off on the evening after the op, but within a couple of days raring to go. It was hard to keep them on limited exercise tbh.

Sorry if my wound incision description wasn't accurate enough Hmm
Been back twice, he's healing really well, was told some dogs just take a bit longer to get back to normal?

I've had 2 dogs neutered and not experienced anything like this. Ib each case they were initially disoriented, then very sleepy, then reproachful but no loss of appetite. They were well healed within a week or so. If it persists you should take them back to the vet, as the external wound may be healing but perhaps something else is wrong internally.

No need to be salty OP. I was trying to help you. Your description confused me, in case it wasn't a normal neutering op. I'd ring the vets and ask if he can have a few more days' painkillers ASAP.
