Dog ate a plum pit

As per the title, my toddler had decided she was done with her plum and threw the pit on the floor. In the 2 seconds it took me to see it, my dog had grabbed it and ate it.

He's a Jack Russell, about 10kg I'd say. He seems fine and went straight into the garden to argue with the neighbours dogs (as usual).

Need I do anything or just keep an eye on him? And if so what do I need to look for?

Most likely will be fine, my dog used to gorge herself on plums fallen off a tree in the back of our garden. (Oh, how I loved poo picking after that...)

@Gubanc oh god, I can imagine! They're quite small pits so hoping he just passes it!

If swallowed whole probably ok. If it was crunched up the inside of the pit is an issue as it contains cyanide.

Keep an eye. I had a little terrier who swallowed a peach stone whole and it got stuck in his intestine. We knew something was up because he went off his food and his belly swelled up - he ended up having surgery to remove it. He recovered but always had rather a sensitive tummy after that.

Update - he's been his usual self so far, not a big eater so hasn't eaten since but that's totally normal, will offer him something special when I'm home and see what he thinks. He's been out for a poo this morning, no straining etc, I'll have a little investigate when I'm home and pick it up. He crunched it slightly but I don't think he broke into it, though I imagine the amount of cyanide would be relatively low from one pit?

I would be careful.

They're toxic (they contain cyanide) and can't be digested so easily form blockages. Google says to go to the vet if they're ingested as the toxins can be fatal.
