How often do you wash your dogs' bedding?

We have four dogs. Their blankets and other bedding including 'mattress' covers get washed at 70C once a week. It takes three loads because they have lots of bedding!

Their soft toys get washed every couple of weeks, depending on how dirty they are as some get taken to - and abandoned in - the garden.

How often do you wash your dogs' bedding?

Not as often as I should , I aim for every 2 weeks although he doesn't go in his beds dirty he lays on towel on outhouse if dirty, which goes on wash asap

LaurieFairyCake · 11/02/2021 17:27

Once a month/every 6 weeks

The dogs get washed weekly so the beds aren't as bad

Ours go on their beds dirty - we CBB to shower them after each walk. I was also told that washing dogs too often strips their coats of protective oils. But really, it's laziness too. They get groomed when they need it but otherwise we leave them and they seem OK (very shiny coats, great health, etc).

Whenever it smells or looks dirty!
Her main bedding upstairs hasn’t been washed in months.
Her downstairs bedding does get washed quite regularly because she comes in wet and muddy and it’s soft fleecy fabric so can’t be wiped clean

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 11/02/2021 18:17

Rarely. I do, however, stick him under the shower (water only) when he comes home muddy.

joystir59 · 11/02/2021 18:21

When I've got visitors coming that don't often visit, you know, the ones that make you feel a little more on ceremony than normal. Or when dd jumps straight on her bed after rolling in fox shit.

joystir59 · 11/02/2021 18:22

He does get showered in warm water when muddy. He loves a warm shower and tub down in his big towel. Prima Donna JRT

Rub not tub

1-2x a week for 3 chihuahuas that share a bed. They refuse to use it if it smells at all, spoilt!

Moondust001 · 11/02/2021 18:26

I have a doggy shower in the garage. A proper shower. Post mud we go in there, shake it all off, and finished and into the house. Bedding? What bedding? It would take nails to keep him in a bed. Very big nails.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 11/02/2021 18:50

Once a week.

BadEyeBri · 11/02/2021 18:51

Weekly

Frenchfancy · 12/02/2021 15:58

When they start to smell. Our old DDog was incontinent so it was almost daily, DPup has very short hair and generally isn't smelly. I'm not washing her bedding very often as she's recently switched from crate to bed and is sleeping through so I don't want to change any smells that comfort her.

blowinahoolie · 12/02/2021 18:15

We use a blast dryer on the dog so not really needing to wash her blanket more than once a week really.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 13/02/2021 09:48

Fortnightly. Turn the mattress over after a week if I remember.

Sitdowncupoftea · 13/02/2021 11:56

Twice a week sometimes more but my dog uses throws on sofa.

Snowymcsnowsony · 13/02/2021 11:59

Ddogs themselves get bathed twice a year... Bedding twice a week. We also have 4. Toys get binned regularly as they get destroyed usually the day of purchase...
I have had success with taking the ddog bed cover off, putting the cushion in a black bag and replacing the cover. Just need to wash the cover then!

Juanbablo · 14/02/2021 07:07

Once a fortnight. Dog is small, not smelly and doesn't seem to get very dirty. He gets a bath every couple of months.

Frenchdressing · 14/02/2021 08:14

I am quite surprised that people bath their dogs once a week? Our childhood dog got a bath once in a blue moon I think. Our current dog gets his hair cut and bath at groomers once every 2 months.

Do dogs need a weekly bath? Is it not bad for their coat and skin?

Genuine questions as I don’t know what to do for the best.

Don’t mean to hijack thread. I wash our dogs blanket one a week but I am conscious that dogs are very sensitive to smells so try to use neutral smelling detergent etc. the bed just gets a wipe as it is a kind of waterproof fabric.

I practically never wash my dog.
I will wipe the worst of mud off with a warm wet cloth but unless she rolls in something repugnant she doesn’t get a bath.

We won't be bathing our Saint more than once possibly twice a year. They are prone to skin infections so bathing them wouldn't help. We use a blast dryer to get rid of dirt on rainy day walks. Very quick to use, no need to bath.

BatleyTownswomensGuild · 15/02/2021 14:20

At the moment once a fortnight. She's a low shedding breed with a short, clean coat and she enjoys a good session with a furminator so floof is rarely an issue in the winter months. Will do it more regularly in the summer when she sheds more.

Heavens ... I am amazed!

We only wash our dog's bedding when we need to ie when it smells or he has thrown up on it ... typically every couple of months. Only gets smelly if he's rolled in something unpleasant in the park - which yes, he does enjoy doing and we try to prevent!

I'd always assumed he would want it to smell of dog and find it more comforting than something that smells of washing products given their highly sensitive noses.

And washing the dog - ditto. Recommended as seldom as possible if using soap I thought? - so I guess we do it every couple of months and less than that if we can get away with it ... but he does have a predilection for finding something smelly to roll in. I seem to remember the ideal is twice a year or less but we don't quite manage that.

And yes, like others we'll rinse him in warm water, no soap, more frequently and just see that like him being out in the rain so reckon its fine to do whenever. Twice a day when we're down near the beach!
